I see some people still struggle with the "no chat" concept of the Free Films thread

What a lot of fuss, a black dress code, arriving early, no admittance if late etc. But the organisers were late! People were arriving half an hour or even more after the screening started, but still let in, well, they were the Q&A panel. Half the cinema's seats had reserved signs on them, but no one told anyone if we were having pre-drinks upstairs, we could sit there, but we went there anyway, as the seats at the back were pretty full and all the reserved seats were empty!
.
I must admit their email stating that anyone who did not adhere to the "Black Dress" code would not be admitted put me right off -- I'm too plain for that. I asked for clarification and they wrote back

" Smart black dress refers to any attire which you would wear to a dinner or a gala event of any kind. For men, the dress code is black tie, suit and shoes and for ladies it is evening/elegant dress."

They didn't mention any of this when I booked the tickets!

Is it just the Showfilmfirst screening for Selma cancelled? Is it for All locations?
The Telegragh screening seems okay, still on their website and nothing about cancellation so far (received the reminder email on Friday).

Also saw this at the Genesis cinema disorganised by BUFF. It was good see vealster, prettyxcool and co. Sadly I was sat by the exit and had to endure every late comer and just various people coming and going throughout the film. Some guy on our row for some reason couldn't stop scrolling the internet on his ipad and a woman next to me was constantly playing with her mobile phone, shuffling papers and speaking to staff/organisers. It was really distracting from the film. Obviously won't be sitting near the exit again lol.

However I found Selma to be a very strong, brilliant and emotional film. It's very sad that it was snubbed by the Oscars, there were so many brilliant actors including David who was excellent. I will be watching it again at some point just to catch up on the bits I missed. 10/10

Used a voucher to see "Selma" today. While I enjoyed the film , I was shocked to realise that this all happened in my lifetime. I know that there are still many areas in the world where equality is not obvious but to see it see graphically presented in one of the world's biggest country's is very disturbing. The film is a slow burner and builds up to the final changes necessary to give equality. It's a shame that the film makers were not able to use the words of the actual speeches given by Martin Luther King due to the rights speeches being owned by EMI. However, the script writers did do well in writing a final speech which is not dissimilar to the famous "I have a dream" speech. Acting was very good throughout.
I'm really glad I've seen Selma and would not have been unhappy to have pa*d!
