Nothing much to say about this hasn't already been mentioned. It's an excellent addition to the Marvel series, maybe just a little short of Winter Soldier's brilliance but that's more because it uses a similar style of action choreography and storytelling - it is afterall directed by the Russo Brothers. Despite the fact that there are around 10 superheroes in the movie, make no mistake, this is a Captain America movie first and foremost. What was especially surprising was the handling of Spider-Man. This is probably the closest incarnation to Stan Lee's comic book character as he is now no longer an unlikeable loser (Tobey Maguire) and no longer a cocky superhero (Andrew Garfield) - just an innocent spirited kid with some serious fighting skills. Overall, Civil War gets an 8/10 from me.

Now, I'd like to just divert for a second and talk about my experience in the movie thater. Throughout the movie, the two gentlemen seated on either side of me were both heavily involved in two respective Whatsapp conversations. Not even 3 minutes could pass before either of them would need to pull out their smartphones to respond. It was agonising to say the least. This is not the first time this has happened to me and I have courteously asked many perperators in the past to switch off their phones, but this time I just knew my request wouldn't be entertained. I couldn't enjoy the movie and I was just completely exhausted from my vision being drawn to their bright white screens every 3 minutes. And to think AMC cinemas in the States was actually considering making this the norm for a select set of theaters. I pa*d more attention to those scumbags than to the actual screen. I can also genuinely tell you that neither of them had their eyes focused on the movie for more than a cumulative amount of maybe 80 minutes. What is the point of even going to the cinema if this is what you're going to be doing? Maybe I'm being less than sympathetic because social network technology is actually to blame in that it is slowling diminishing the concentration span of millenials. Either way, if I can help it, I will never vooluntarily set foot in a movie theater again on opening weekend. It's just not worth it.

It follows on from The Winter Soldier quite heavily but that in itself requires you to have seen the first Captain America.
Knowledge of the events in Age of Ultron and Ant-Man would also help.

Decent enough movie in itself but we all know its the showdowns which make this movie, and they do not disappoint, In particular the mid-movie mass brawl is packed with surprises.

4.5 stars
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

Honestly wasn't sure about this film, but my bf saw the premier and wouldn't shut up about it so I went for it and I wasn't disappointed.

Great performance from the cast, even iron man was palatable.

Thoroughly recommended, 9/10

Went to see this today after FFJ, intended to just see 2D, but didnt make the screening so went for 3D instead as it was only £2 more and I pa*d with a voucher :D I am glad I went for the 3D, I really enjoyed and and cant really add anything to what has already been said, I liked seeing both the old characters and the new ones - 9/10 from me as I am a big superhero fan o/

This was fantastic...but wish they would stop now.

Time to put away the costumes (i was secretly hoping a few of them might die).

Even though this was great (9/10), i really have no enthusiasm for any more. Not spiderman, not Black Panther, none.

kevinknapman wrote:Captain America Civil War offers up more satisfying Marvel action under the increasingly confident hands of The Russo Brothers.

There's, predictably, plenty of thrilling action set pieces but, crucially, they play out with a strong emotional undertow.
This isn't a Batman vs Superman style punch-up where characters fight because hey wouldn't that make a cool movie but one that's been built over several movies with characters we've come to care about.
This is most notable in its climax which eschews the more usual airborne threat to the world of previous films for a down to earth intimate face-off.
As well as being a more emotional experience than BvS, it's also a lot more fun.

The sheer amount of superheroes on screen means that inevitably some don't get to make as much impact as you'd hope but an airport based set piece gives most of them the chance to shine.
Chaswick Boseman and Tom Holland are very welcome additions to the MCU, which bodes very well indeed for the respective Black Panther and Spider-Man solo outings.
Perhaps Daniel Bruhl's lead villain is not quite as formidable as he could have been. As good an actor he is, his character is more of a convenient catalyst than a memorable foe, but that's a minor flaw.

Exciting and never as overstuffed as it could have been, its 147 mins fly by.

Plus Community fans who enjoyed the brief Danny Pudi cameo in Winter Soldier will be glad that someone else from the show makes an appearance here.
An excellent summary. It's hard not to compare this it to BvS and this beats it in on almost every level. They both have a similar storyline, ideas and are both juggling multiple characters whilst trying to tee up future films, but this is clear, you believe in all the characters motivations and although the themes are often big and serious the film never forgets to be fun.

I also saw it in a D-Box screening and I think it really added to the experience. I thought it might be a bit gimmicky, but it was actually quite well done, the seat shaking around during the fight scenes and sometimes gently moving during the flying shots. Definitely worth a go for the right film, bit pricey though.

Overall 8.5/10

I agree about the ending, it seemed set up for a huge battle with the other Winter Soldiers until the twist and was a lot better for it.

And great to see Jim Rash, but he was basically playing the same character from Community - maybe Greendale is in the MCU!
