Patriots Day
Re: Patriots Day
Went to see Patriots day at Leeds Showcase last night wirth my girlfriend. It was a full house not a spare seat in the house. Now to the film, I am a fan of Marky mark with the departed being his best as it plpayed to his natural character. Patriots day is beautifully shot and features a host of great actors Kevin Bacon, Michelle Monahan, and J.k Simmons to name a few. The problem with a story like this is that it sits fresh in the mind and deals with a subject that becomes more prominant and topical as time goes by. This is part of peter Bergs un-official terorist trinity. Overall the film was excellet. The middle is slightly saggy but on a whole was handled well. Testiment to this was that 95% of the audiance stayed behind to observe the conclusion of the people directly affected by this event. Showing they where invested with the characters. Action blockbuster this isn't. It is a story of extroidinary acts by ordinary people and overall was shot with compassion, sensitivity but an unflinching perspective.

An incredibly intense account of the recent tragic events in Boston.
The nail biting tension is turned up way past 11 for what feels like the whole of the second half of the film, bizarrely punctuated by a couple of tension relieving laughs along the way
A fitting tribute to the spirit and resilience of the city especially the interview section at the end.
Powerful stuff 9/10

Re: Patriots Day
I spent most of my time watching this in tears. Obviously I remembered the actual bombing and I know I watched the news of the manhunt but to actually see the events was extremely upsetting. Planting bombs is one thing but to
I'm glad that they didn't try to sensationalise anything, the actual bomb blasts were bad enough and I liked that they often used cctv footage taken during the bomb blasts and the capture.
The interviews at the end of the film are extremely moving and seeing the info at the end set me off again. It's par for the course that the guilty appeal the death sentence, so I wasn't surprised at that. In this case, I would actually volunteer to administer the lethal injection myself. Having said that, are there still companies around that allow their drugs for this practice any more?

Re: Patriots Day
Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg have produced two very good movies about two events the American public should hold very dear to their hearts (Deepwater Horizon and Patriots Day) and they have both flopped fairly miserably at the box office compared to their budgets. It's completely baffling.
I cannot recommend Patriots Day enough. I was particularly impressed with how every pivotal character wasn't just sprung on us during their defining moment. We had already met them prior to the main purpose of their inclusion, be it the murdered MIT police officer, the carjack victim or the Watertown sheriff and this made the audience care about their fate considerably more.

Re: Patriots Day
Much better than we were expecting. Found the film too long and could have cut some of the middle section where it sagged, but fascinating film which filled in a lot I hadn't heard about. Heart breaking scenes with the young boy being guarded and the pictures at the end of the film just reinforce the sadness of the film.
The work that goes on behind the scenes was very interesting, giving a little more understanding of why, sometimes, info is slow to come out. Great cast, great acting.
8/10 from me

Re: Patriots Day
I must admit I was surprised that an incident which only happened 4 years ago has already been made in to a movie. The film was long but I wasn't very aware of time passing as I was so engrossed in the film. Mark Wahlberg was very good as the policeman (albeit the ficticious one) and supported by a bunch of great actors. I agree with The Sparrow that the young Chinese student played a major part in the film and in real life. He deserved a medal! Obviously I do remember the actual event and the tv news coverage at the time some of which was even included in the film.
I found the final scenes of the real people to be very moving.

Re: Patriots Day
The screening I attended included a Q&A with Sgt Jeff Pugliese, who was played in the movie by JK Simmons. In answering a question on the same point, he said that an appeal is automatic in the US in the case of a death penalty, basically just checking that the original trial was conducted properly.prettyxcool wrote:Can't believe his lawyers are appealing!stuartboy wrote: Hard to think that that item of excrement is still alive, though waiting for execution, and has probably even seen the movie.
