Well, so much for "strict guest list". This was the least supervised screening I have ever attended. Anyone could have walked in from the street! We went to reception and said we were here to see the film and were pointed downstairs where two people were handing out drinks and crisps. At no point did anyone ask for name, ID or printout of any kind. So when we had eaten all the crisps we simply wandered into the unsupervised screening room and sat down. Others followed us but I could see it was not going to be full. The attendance rate was shameful. There were only a few people in each row and we were the only ones in the last row.

The film had an unwelcome effect on the OH, who, propably somehow inspired by the many scenes where someone says they need a pee or is heard peeing, went off to the loo FOUR TIMES! Luckily we sat very close to the door so I don't think he disturbed anyone. :giggle:
He didn't like the film very much but I thought it was very gripping though never as good as Das Boot ever was.

7.5/10

I didn't think they would have a high turnout and hence I guess they weren't that strict

How could they know what the turnout would be? There usually is someone there at the MPC ticking names off a list.

Judging by the turnout at the Curzon Soho screening before and quite a few people didn't stay for the Q&A

I saw this yesterday morning at the lovely Apollo West End. Given that it's a war film and set in a tank, I might well have expected the following, but I did find it hard to watch at times, very tense and claustrophobic. What I hadn't expected was that it would appear so blurred and fuzzy for much of the time, too. Yes, you were supposed to have as realistic an idea as possible of the actual conditions in the tank, but I'd have sacrificed a little verite in order to see more clearly.

I could also have done with some context and a less sudden ending, so I'm deducting marks for all those aspects and giving it 7/10. It certainly didn't have the impact on me that I'd been led to expect. It wasn't top of my "must see" list anyway, but the only film I could fit in before my theatre matinee.
