I was roped in for free 60 day Love Film trial once, they said I wouldntbe p*ying until my 60day trial was up(ofcourse if i wanted to discontinue i could before my trial was up)
came to he first day of my trial, money went out, I canelled it instantly and complained
the help service said that the guy who 'sold' me the deal, had been misinformed, and the deal had already finished
even though they had MASSIVE posters with it on -_-
needlessto say they refused to refund me, so i refuse to use them!

I guess it might also depend on your area, level of membership etc. I know with lovefilm, when you start a 3 month trial, initially they are very good with giving you whats on top of your list and then the service really tails off and then if you start complaining about not getting dvds, they take a really dim view on complaints....

Yes, definitely. It seems to be a special service when you are on a free trial (I've had several!) but then drops off rapidly. Customer service is apalling - you get standard answers to your emails which never address the questions asked, continual regurgitation of their "fair usage policy" to explain why you never get top titles and for years they even withdrew their telephone number (not sure of the current situation) so you could never actually talk to anyone and they didn't have to deal face to face with complaints. As they gobbled up more and more rental companies they became worse and worse.

Yes, they made me so incandescent with rage I thought I was going to have a heart attack!
so i refuse to use them!
I got the distinct feeling that they don't give a toss about this - plenty more fish in the sea is their mantra.

In the past I have toyed with the idea of signing up to a DVD rental company but I heard stories like these about poor customer service which always put me off.

I have Sky Movies and it's approximately a 12 month turnaround between cinema release and being shown on sky movies so I just record films I like and watch them later! :D

Looks like I'm not missing out on much with these online companies.

well it seems there is NO PHONE NUMBER to complain to these Empire movie club wiseguys. And it help matters, they send you emails with addresses that cant be replied to.

I smell a scam, and I've fallen for it!

Unless anyone can help me with the phone number for them, shall proclaim internet war with these guys and aim to spin off 100 bad reviews for them a week everywhere I can.

How did you p*y, raj101? Surely if it was with a debit or credit card you could ask the provider to take up the issue on your behalf?

thank you Ms Thrifty, you seem to have kickstarted my brain for me!

i subsequently went down to the bank, and discovered its not a direct debit, but a monthly 'card payment'..something I've never heard of before.

So I cancelled my card number, cheers, guys. Empire DVD can go spin for all i care. and I am still going to write them bad reviews and all. :)

Sounds like a CCA, or Continuous Card Authority (I think), raj101 - might be worth reading up on as they can be tricky to wriggle out of - make sure you did all you needed to do, just in case.

well thats was good advice, Thrifty.i just read up on them using Dom's guide on the One Show website. Its hard to believe these can exist in bona fide businesses. They can take as much as they want from you too with a CCA! What??

I'll definitely p*y more attention to free trials when signing up from now on.

And Empire are still going to suffer at my hands.

Could you also reclaim the money you've already had to spend when you shouldn't have done, raj101?
