i've been put forward for a job without my consent and i reallly REALLY don't want it. least for the fact it will be soul destroying, won't p*y me enough to destroy my soul let alone mention the fact someone working there used to make my life hell at my last soul destroying place of work.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Couldn't work in an office. Tried for 3 months but was extremely uphappy and stressed so back in the field so to speak. Only downside is that I am nowhere near a computer when working.

Do we work to live or live to work?

I don't think I could face traditional, Mon - Fri, 9 - 5 office work. Though if I was desperate for a job.... but it's OK when working shifts and having a constantly changing selection of colleagues. Must be the variety and surprise element I need. I do sometimes think it'd be nice to work outdoors, but then I think about doing that year-round - no!

But you are always the first to moan if your shift work means you haven't got the same days free as other people etc...

I used to do shift work and realised that most people didn't like working lates so I was lumbered with them as I was childless. It is better p*y but then your social life is ruined as I could only meet my friends at the last minute.

I might moan if I can't go to a Sunday AM screening but I freely acknowledge that it actually makes more sense financially to get pa*d to work that day and then p*y to see the film in due course if I wish to. Otherwise I much prefer to have my days off when other people are working as it's then quieter (and cheaper) to do the things I want to do in my free time: footpaths are often deserted on weekdays and films and plays are cheaper. But as with everything it's swings and roundabouts. I'm sure people who do work office hours have positive things to say about them. In fact, hats off to you guys because I bet I couldn't even cope with the commuting, let alone the actual work!

I like working shifts for similar reasons to you Ms Thrifty, I worked 9-5 until I had kids, but missed them too much and p*ying for childcare wasn't economical so started working shifts that I could fit around my OH's work so one of us would always be home with them.

Once kids went to school I got a 9-3 job and hated it, so back to the shifts I don't think would ever go back now out of choice. I mainly do evenings, nobody else wants them especially at the weekend, but they suit me, can spend all day with the family and am off to work as they are going to bed, I get quite a lot of annual leave and can swap shifts if I want a night out.......however, today I am doing a rare early shift....it killed me getting up this morning!
Preferred Cinema's now Paignton or Exeter!

you must be an owl. I'm a lark and prefer to get into work early and leave early.

I work full time flexi and am in and out of the office. Would drive me crazy to do a static job now. In this economic climate feel lucky to have a job, especially since its in the voluntary sector and the monster Cameron/Clegg seem determined to keep p*ying corrupt companies to get vulnerable people jobs while folks in the voluntary sector are much better at it. :wall:
