Never read the book, went in loving the 6 minute trailer, and left stunned. An ambitious production that, whilst messy, works very well. Whishaw, Broadbent and Weaving are especially fantastic, but overall this crazy film full of sci-fi ideas, tragedies and a wacky adventure as well is a wonderful tome to the brilliant creativity inherent in humanity. More of this, and cinema would be doing better, thematically, than it is now.

I just really didn't care about the characters, nor did I understand the pigeon-esq language or some of the other dialogue, nor did I see the point in it all or feel there was any sort story going on and I really didn't want to wait another hour or so to find out that I had wasted even more of my life. We did decide that probably most people will rave about the film and think we are odd, but hey ho, horses for courses. Terrible 1/10 from me.
If you only stayed for that length of time, it's no wonder you failed to understand it ;)

I totally agree with you! I left in awe. This thoroughly deserves a second viewing.

Whatever anyone thinks about this film, I didn't come out of "song for marion", "i give it a year" or "wreck it ralph" thinking I must read this book!

The film was not perfect (in my opinion, it would have been clearer / better had actors NOT played multiple roles), but oh my! the ambition, the daring, the vision, the balls !

I think I liked this, but as other posters have said, I need some time to think about it.

The music was beautiful. Finally, something has dislodged the music from The Life Of Pi trailer from my head... o/

found it hard and confusing and difficult to get into at first but after a while i understood it but felt some parts were a bit useless and had no meaning, also felt that 2 and a half hours was a bit too long but it was visually great and loved the music

After a hard days work and previous sleepless night it was a hard ask to concentrate for 3 hours. I get the storyline, it is quite a different film to any I've seen before apart from the fact that the actors repeatedly played different characters which repeatedly brought unwelcome visions of Eddie Murphy into my head (was really tired by then). Nice to see Hugo weaving but boy does he look hideous as a woman!

It had nice moments and I kept wanting them to delve a little deeper into certain story lines/characters, but I also kept thinking "when is this film actually going to end" which is never a good sign in my book. Loved the music. Not a film for everyone.

I saw this a second time tonight. Didn't know anything about before I went and with so much going on had to really concentrate. Second viewing meant I enjoyed it a lot more. Loved the credits at the end seeing all the parts the actors played.

We saw the film on Sunday, hubby was bored rigid and chomped his way through popcorn and toffees ( broke his filling ) but the girls and I really enjoyed it, I found it confusing only for a few minutes but as I had read the blurb sent in advance about the film I was able to quickly follow it. I hardly even noticed the same actors playing different characters ( though I knew in advance ). Seeing the film though I don't want to read the book.
