Review: The Proposal

Romantic comedy star Sandra Bullock walked the red carpet in Munich for the German premiere of her latest film The Proposal.

Bullock, whose mother is German, said that she is interested in becoming German too.

She said: "We are hoping that we can get dual citizenship, that we can get two passports because we heard that the sons of German mothers can get them but not daughters. Why, I don't know."

"We are hoping that the girls can have them too and if they can, my sister and I are going to do it too."

Co-star Ryan Reynolds, who recently married actress Scarlett Johansson, said the chance to work with long-time friend Bullock was a great opportunity.

He admitted he was initially slightly concerned about their on-screen chemistry. But after the first days of rehearsals, all worries flew out the window.

"Friendship on a set can also help for trust. When you really trust your co-star it makes difficult moments incredibly easy," he said.

How did I miss that Scarlett Johansson had married Ryan Reynolds??? I'm going to have to spend more time on gossip magazines! Any bets on how long this will last?

I checked out Sandra Bullock's DOB on IMDB when everyone started commenting on this. Now, if she was born on 26 July 1964, then she is not quite 45 yet... . (There are online reports that she has a body double, Beate, if it makes you feel better.) Give her a break - until the 25th!

BTW - I loved The Proposal. I will b*y it when it comes out (and the price is reasonable) to sit alongside Legally Blond, Miss Congeniality and my Doris Day films. It was busy - which surprised me given the number of screenings.

I really should have been working, and ended up working through the night, but went anyway. I might go again. I loved the dog, was fixated about how Sandra Bullock could walk in the high shoes, and wondered how everyone managed to send all those emails about the boss without accidentally copying her in.... (Now, why would I think of this??? ) Loved the scenery. And just kept laughing (but not as loud as Steve who was clearly enjoying this! I heard his laugh three rows away! (ALso spoke to PeteYork and his neighbour later.)

As usual, I kept trying to place where I had seen people. Gertrude was in 21 Dresses, Mr Gilbertson was in Milk, Changeling, Charlie Wilson's War and ... Brothers and Sisters. Indeed, many of the cast were from TV shows, including Ramone, who I thought I had seen in a movie. (But could not according to IMDB.)

Saw this thanks to phunkygal at Cineworld Glasgow on Tuesday. It was pretty full, my mum and I got there early and for the second time I brought vegetable sushi as my cinema snack- it's quiet to eat and as it's just raw vegetables and rice it doesn't really smell of anything! I had it again for lunch yesterday, I'm becoming a bit of a vegetarian sushi fanatic! I didn't think my mum would like this much as she rolled her eyes a lot during Confessions of a Shopaholic, but she actually really enjoyed the movie and I thought it was good too. My mum said it's nice to see an older woman in a romcom, thinking that SB was about 40... haven't told her yet that actually SB is only three years younger than my mum! I thought it was not bad, although Sandra Bullock and Gammy definitely stole the show- RR seemed to have about two facial expressions, the one used most often being puzzled/bemused which also doubled for falling in love/ feeling hurt. The film also seemed to be in two minds about whether to poke fun at itself or not, falling somewhere in the middle- there was a lot of attempts of musical manipulation to try and make the scene more emotional- if you watch the final scene of RR's long speech, the musical starts of jaunty and light when he's saying how much she annoys him etc, and then goes into soft swoony mode as his speech turns to how he loves her bladda blah. I have to say that the romantic speech is my least favourite part of any romcom and I cannot help rolling my eyes- i prefer my romance to be much more subtle, but understand that it's rare to get subtlety in any area of this kind of genre! There's not much point in picking it apart any further, I expected a chickflick comedy and I got one, and I have to say I did laugh out loud a few times and so did others in the audience (including the men!), so the film was doing something right. I'd give it 6/10.

I saw it at Cineworld in Enfield on Tuesday. I have to say i'm not a huge fan of rom-com but will watch one if I know it will be geniunely funny. For a guy, the actors in the film does sway it as well.
For example, if you've seen one Hugh Grant rom-com, you've seen 'em all. The fact that RR was in this, I thought as bare minimum there would be a few geniune laughs in it.

I have to say I was pleasantly suprised and my wife and her friend thought it was really good. SB is looking pretty hot as well. The Ramone character was brilliant and plenty of 'laugh out loud' moments througout the whole film. RR was very funny as usual and Gammy was also amusing. The scenery was breathtaking and I should imagine spur a few people to take a holiday there (certainly got me thinking!).

Sure, it has some cliche scenes and dialogue in it, but hey thats what you expect in any Rom-Com.

Well worth a watch 7.5/10

Saw this at Swiss Cottage today where the turnout was quite poor. This is a typical rom-com/chick-flick whatever you want to call it but I loved it! Several funny scenes and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Ramone was hilarious and the 'chanting' scene with Grammy was one of my favourites. 9/10

I am going to see this tomorrow night @ boldon.....second attempt after the gateshead debarcle! lol ......was really looking forward to it the 1st time but the mix up has taken the shine off it abit! lol winge bag arnt I?

Saw this at Cineworld Edinburgh tonight. Very busy and people sat on the stairs at one point. Dont know if they left or found seats eventually.

Really enjoyed this, not as much of a chic flick as i thought it might be.Reminded me a bit of Green Card- but better and also The Housesitter with Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn. - just as good.

Amazing Scenery, lots of interesting characters, loved the way Ramone was introduced and the dog and eagle and the chanting were really funny Can't believe SB is as old, she looked amazing. Felt SB and RR were believable as a couple too

Good night out and hopefully someone will b*y it on DVD as a good film to watch again.

Watched this at Cineworld Didsbury which was really busy. I really loved this film even though it was very predictable. My favourite bits were the messages sent in the office as she arrived and the dog scene.
Least favourite was realizing that Sandra Bullock is 44 like me and apart from having dark hair that's where the resemblance ends hence she's a Hollywood Moviestar and I work for the NHS!!

Saw this tonight at West India Quay, first time ever that I was asked for ID.

The cinema was packed, I loved the film but then I am a real sucker for chick flick movies.
What surprised me was that my OH enjoyed it too, as normally he is not to keen on this sort of film. We both found it funny in parts and the scenery was just breathtaking.

And yes I agree Sandra Bullock looks absolutely amazing.

Will definitely be b*ying this on DVD. 9/10 from me.

Saw this in screen 6 at West India Quay Cineworld - First time at this cinema and it was nice with big roomy seats and non sticky floors. The audience was pretty full and the usher asked for id! That's not happened to me in a while. The film was better than Sandra Bullock's recent stuff, it was nice to see her doing comedy which I think is her strength as an actress. Was surprised to read on IMDB that the film was made in Boston with Boston doubling up as New York and Alaska and that the mountains were all digitally added in! And here I was adding Alaska to my bucket list of places to visit! Ah the magic of movie making.....
