What Did You Watch Last Night?

Last night I turned 18 at midnight. So I decided to celebrate by... Watching any old crud on tv. Specifically, "Nowhere to Run" a 1996 film staring Jean Claude Van Damme. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nowhere_to ... 93_film%29

Its what you would expect it to be. TERRIBLE. But you just can't divert your eyes gaze :)

But I think this is a sign that I am growing old. I turned 20 last night. Not 18.

I AM 20 FOR ONE DAY! And I forget... I forget my age on my own birthday.

Its not that im 20 for a day! Its my first day at being 20. Its weird.

I thought that now I am no longer a teenager, adults would approach me with a black briefcase with a combination lock to tell me the secrets about everything (like father Christmas existing...) but it wasn't to be

I watched the JK Rowling episode of Who Do you Think You Are. I love watching this series because unlike most historical documentaries, this series gives a deeper insight into what it would be like to live as the ancestral individuals from an almost first person perspective. I have not missed any episode since it began a few years ago. The ancestral tracing and investigations make for fascinating viewing. Sometimes they discover tragedy, irony, heroism, or shocking revelations of their ancestors. Some of their stories would make great novels. As the celebrities investigate various elements of the ancestor's past, we get inserts of history lessons from the program's narrator giving a global picture of that particular time in history. Its a very well constructed series.

I was waiting for JK Rowiling's episode for a while and I was not dissapointed. Her investigations into her Great Grandfather Louis Velong was riveting and turns out pretty epic. Its on BBC iPlayer now, highly recommended viewing for everyone, not just potter fans (though potter fans will get a tad extra in some of the ironies in Rowling's discoveries ;-) ):

I watched the JK Rowling episode of Who Do you Think You Are.

I also watched that the other night JK Rowling's French was really impressive as she was translating whilst tring to decipher handwriting. She came across as incredibly nice and modest. Only mention of Harry Potter was when she met her long lost eighth cousin (approximately) and he asked if she was the one who wrote HP. He certainly didn't seem floored by her celebrity!

I watched a dissapointing Big Brother. 2 people in there that I haven't heard of and the rest of them ain't up 2 much. Sadly, I'll still watch as I've waiting all summer 4 it (SAD). The best thing on BB last night? Brian Dowling had a camel-toe for pretty much the whole programme!!

I watched a movie called Monte Carlo which has lots of actors I know from other series (Catherine Tate, Leighton Meester, Corey Monteith). The main characters were portrayed by Selena Gomez and she was supposed to be 18 in it, but she looked no older than 10... I have Googled her since and apparently she's 19, so she just looks really, young. o.O It was a cute and entertaining teen flick if you like that sort of thing (I do!).

lol, yeah that was pretty funny. Well the little ironies I spotted with her Harry Potter books were all related to Velong. First the birthday coincided with her own and Harry Potter's Bday. JK declares she loves bravery in ordinary people when caught up in extraordinary circumstances. She embeds that quality in her Harry Potter and Velong seems to embody that very kind of persona...its almost as if Rowling subconsciously wrote about Velong when writing HP. The more I think about Velong, the more Harry Potter he seems to be. The unselfish sacrifices he makes to save his comrades, and for his family. The part where he is left with just a small amount of survivors and leads them to face the ominous enemy, just blew me away and I couldnt help thinking this was so like her Harry Potter and his Dumbledore's army, fighting the Death Eaters...except this was real. And there were characteristics I can think of but this is what I meant by the little things that HP fans can pick up on
