Just had my finger and toe nails painted tonight and had to walk back in my flip flops in a very pretty snowfall in Manchester. Did look a bit of a div and I felt like my toes were about to freeze - I made this appointment last month ready for my holiday and did think that it would be sandals weather by now It wasn't fair to cancel at the last minute but couldn't think of anything else that I could have done instead.

Treat yourself to a taxi? It would have been much warmer.

Mobile nail technition to visit you at home sounds like a good plan or if you must visit the salon then how about gel polish is great and will be fully dry in a couple of mins under UV plus it lasts around 3 weeks, perfect for going on holiday as no touch up required.

Why oh why didn't I have this advice before I went A taxi would have been good and please tell me more re gel polish. Myself and jojojoanne must be made of tough stuff or just mad I have a car but as not used to having polished nails due to work so its my holiday treat and didn't want to smudge putting on my seat belt etc. I don't think that it will be sandal weather in Cologne

OH's son wanted to come down from Birmingham today - we'll see. Last time he wanted to come was several weeks ago until he had to cancel - due to snow. This weather is beginning to be a joke.

A joke is certainly what it is Beate. We have escaped any up here in Durham City, though up in the dales, there is significant snowfall, with the A66 blocked, and then closed. It is most unusual for our part of the country to be without snow when there is so much falling on other parts of the UK. Of course, our turn may come soon.

Agree that imagining you in cold, snowy Manchester in your flipflops must have been quite a sight, Diane. Perhaps they thought you'd just arrived from somewhere sunny!
