When I moved from Surrey I went to the local cornershop and asked if they had any spare cardboard boxes. They gave me about 10 for nothing, most were flat packed but took about three seconds to re-assemble at home. I'm sure your local Tesco / Asda / Sainsbury would help you out too.Octopus wrote:I didn't think it was that difficult to find moving boxes... for free, or at least cheap!
Has anyone ever used this website? http://www.boxes2move.co.uk/index.php?a ... at&catId=3
Argos sells them but it's expensive, and none of my friends have boxes big enough for all my stuff... so I might just b*y two or three boxes. But if you have any idea of cheap websites / places, let me know please!!
edit: nevermind about the website, they charge £10 for delivery, LOL.

Re: The Diary Room
Yeah I went to Tesco and didn't find anything, which I found weird. Usually in France I'd go to Lidl and take the boxes...
Just need to have something quite strong otherwise the delivery guy might refuse to collect the boxes.
But I'll keep checking around.

Re: The Diary Room
If you ask at some supermarkets and are prepared to wait whilst they unpack they give them to you before they pull them apart - especially the wine departments. Other place I have seen loads offered for free is Freecycle or Freegle (2 different organisations which cover duplicate areas) http://my.freecycle.org/ and http://groups.yahoo.com/ - you have to join whichever groups near you but people post all the time with moving boxes to give away - or you could do a wanted post as well.....eumenides wrote:When I moved from Surrey I went to the local cornershop and asked if they had any spare cardboard boxes. Re: The Diary Room
Tesco, Adsa, etc usually tear them up as they open them so don't have any to give you but try your local Asian grocer shop as a small independant store is more likely to have them and be glad to get rid of them.
When we moved a few years ago a local shop said they would have some in a couple of days when they had a delivery and would keep them for me.

Octopus, try Freecycle too. People are often offering up cardboard boxes on our Hackney freecycle.

Octopus wrote:Hello hello
Sorry I've been away from the forum for days, and a huge THANK YOU to people who booked tickets for me (I'm not sure I'll go see 'Mama', honestly)
I've decided to move back to France by the end of the month. I only have one job this month so I don't want to waste anymore money here doing nothing...
I might still come and say hi sometimes here, otherwise... I'm on Twitter, if you miss me too much :)
Anyway, I'm not gone yet! Will leave on February 27th.
Huge kisses to you, lovely people![]()

Re: The Diary Room
Can you help!
When we received a tweet from a mum asking us to sign a petition to provide Funding for Research into Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) we were keen to help by not only signing her petition but helping to raise awareness. She had just lost her 5th IVF baby to CDH and we found her story heartbreaking.
CDH takes the lives of newborn babies all too often. It is a birth defect that can affect any unborn child and requires additional ante-natal care plus intensive care and treatment. There is no known cause or prevention and treatment remains medically challenging and costly. The babies that survive may endure ongoing medical problems ranging from asthma and feeding problems to chronic lung and digestive problems. We want the Government to provide funding to enable research into the cause of CDH with a view to finding the prevention and better treatment of the condition.
