Re: The Diary Room
Quick question: My Mum is coming over in September for her 70th birthday and I have the task to book her and hubby into a nice hotel, preferably in Greenwich. My first choice was Devonport House but that's unavailable on most of her days. The Ibis Greenwich is not in a quiet location so the only other one I can think of that's quiet and relatively affordable is the Mercure Greenwich which is near Deptford Bridge DLR in a quiet side road and looks nice. It's also quite new and affordable but if anyone has any other suggestions please let me know - it has to be quiet and she would like a nice view if at all possible. A lot of the hotels around Docklands are quite corporate and soulless, and her budget does not quite extend to the Marriott Hotel at West India Quay!

Re: The Diary Room
The Clarendon Hotel, Blackheath? I've never stayed there, but it looks nice. A walk over the Heath and you're in Greenwich Park. (The 108 bus stops right outside and goes to Greenwich Odeon and The O2, in case you get tickets while she is here!!)Beate wrote:Quick question: My Mum is coming over in September for her 70th birthday and I have the task to book her and hubby into a nice hotel, preferably in Greenwich. If all else fails, there's a Travel Lodge by Deptford Bridge Station, probably not quiet though and certainly not nice views!! There's a Premier Inn just down the road from Greenwich Picturehouse.

Re: The Diary Room
Thanks. I am not going to put my Mum into a Travelodge or a Premier Inn for a whole week, that might be pushing it. The Clarendon looks a bit dated and is also a bit too far at the other end of Greenwich. I think I'll stick to the Mercure, it looks really nice and modern and the prices are moderate. They are brandnew as well.

Re: The Diary Room
who would think watching f1 at home alone could be so cool?
Observe - currently I have the Brit Grand Prix on the tv set, whilst on my PC I have driver tracker displaying driver places on a map of the track on the left side of my PC screen, and on the right side of my PC screen is the pitlane tracker for all the gasps and groans from the pit crew plus a mini cam of the drivers view. I am even wearing Lewis Hamilton style sunglasses whilst watching.
'How cool is that?' as Jenson Button used to say.

Re: The Diary Room
i went to wimbledon yesterday in the sunshine
we didnt manage to get tickets in either the ballot or on ticketmaster
so we joined the famous 'que'
got there just after 6am
then were told all the tickets for centre court and court one were all allocated at 11am on sunday
omg people are mad lmao
the que is very well organised tho just before 7am they started guveung out cards with ur place in the que so u could pop to the shops or toilet (they said u could leave for 20mins)
its £20 on the gate for access to the grounds but well worth it
you have access to all facillties and can go and watch courts4-19 all unreseved seats
got to see a few matches there
also got to see djovokic playing with his coach on court 17 by accident at 11am
he was amazing to watch just practicing
we got to see some of court 3 too they have small unreserved section there but huge que we waited about an hour
we had lunch on murray mount or henmen hill whichever u prefer to call it
great spot in the sunshine but wish they had bigger screen or 2 so can see well on whole of the hill
the hill is smaller than it looks on tv too
great fun on the hill but if u are planning going there word of advice go early get a spot with ur blanket and take turns with ur group to go and see matches. its so hard finding a spot after 11am
we went to the resale que later in the afternnon (about 5pm) very doubtful we would get any tickets and joined a very long que
about 5.20 a steward came out and said he had 2 tickets for court 1 but seats arent together
no one wanted them was really shocked . people are so fussy lol
£5 and your complaining when they came to us in the line we grabbed them
really good seats and we got to see a great match
tomic v beynich
lasted about 3 hours so good value for a fiver
and they were so close in the match
fab day out and sun came out for us yesterday too
go if u get the chance
although i doubt i would go in the que again unless in a big group so can be little more flexible

Re: The Diary Room
Thanks claire for sharing about Wimbledon. I alway wanted to do what you did, but just have not found the time!
I agree with you about sleep! Same here so little sleep, and still so much to do!

Re: The Diary Room
It's good fun Prettyxcool.
Definitely recommend. But u can guarantee u will get any tickets for the show courts.
I Should add centre court is £10 on returns
And do bear in mind u have to p*y for these tickets and que for gate in cash
We were number 5915 in que and didn't think we would get in. But we did
