I spent most of today sorting out my clothes and although I have three huge bags of clothes to donate, my closets look fuller than before I started :/

ANYWAY, what is the best way to donate clothes in the UK? Charity shop (if so, which one)? Clothing bins for third world? Exchange in store for a voucher?

If you have experience with any of these, please let me know :)

While most clothes are in perfect condition, I have a few less wearable (jeans with a rip in the knee, odd socks, etc), what would be the best thing to do with these?

I used to volunteer in a charity shop (although not in London). If you have anything in good nick, pop it in a bin bag and take it round during opening hours. A lot of well-meaning folk leave things outside, but then they can get stolen/weather damaged etc.

Charity shops can get money for rags, but if your clothes are in that state, you're better off recyling them (there are often clothes bins near big supermarkets for that purpose).

Charity shops stuggle to flog on cheaper brands, so if you have stuff in good condition from, say, Primark, a homeless charity would probably be more grateful than a charity shop. Shoppers always want a bargain, they just won't b*y second hand cheapy brands.

There are definitely some London based homeless charities which ask for warm clothes and coats in winter, I assume they also take donations all year round. I have little knowledge of London specific charities, but I think a few members do volunteer and may be better placed to advise?

I take mine to Sue Ryder on Essex Road. They're very friendly there.

Not sure in London but I know in Manchester the local hostels take them or how about freecycle? Local charity workers do take them from there plus a few requests are put on especially women's refuge places we (ie general public) aren't allowed the addresses for there. Well done on having the sort out - it is one of my favourite hobbies sorting and organising.

Congratulations to Austria on the Eurovision win. I thought it was well-deserved. The Jesus-like bloke in the dress with the strange name delivered an outstanding song - and stuck a finger up to Russia.

I loved the song and what a beautiful dress - looked very glamorous!! I did feel sorry for the 2 young Russian girls as they are nothing to do with the trouble.

He reminded me of Alan Cummings in Any Day Now. I agree, an outstanding song and so well sung.

This was the scene outside my work work today. I still cannot get my head around how the driver managed it.

They had to close the road (a very busy road) while the police and fire brigade moved the car off the motorcycles.

OMG! As you say, funthing29, how on earth did the driver manage that? Hopefully no one was hurt.
