It looks like the car was lowered onto the bikes, probably with a removal truck - the type that lifts a car from the side with a miniature crane.

The car was not lowered on to the trucks, the car drove over the bikes (it made a tremendous noise I am told) but luckily no one was hurt.

I don't see how that was possible. The bikes are in too neat a pile, as if they just collapsed under the weight of the car. There is no evidence of how forward momentum was stopped, nor how vertical momentum was achieved. These are essential points as if you just drive into a bunch of bikes with a car, they will be scattered and debris will be everywhere. The scene is too neat and tidy. If the car drove up there then it used a removable ramp and drove slowly. I still consider a removal lorry as the most likely answer.
You can take heart in the fact that when the bikes collapsed it would have been loud and may have been the first moment people noticed the odd arrangement. Its quite possible that the lorry was driving away when the collapse happened.

It's not a big deal but there were witnesses to the incident and the car somehow managed to drive over the bikes. It does boggle the mind but there you go.

Other than watching the sport does anyone have any suggestions how I should pass the time while working my notice period which ends mid July?
