Re: TV Series: Discuss, Review, Anticipate, and Wotnot
Watched the first episode of Event. Boy these TV series editors love their back and forth timeline editing. Everyone is doing it. It used to feel quite radical at one time many years ago but its becoming so saturated and tiring.
Having said that, The Event show promise in an intriguing storyline, felt like a pretty good hitchcockian style little thriller. Havent warmed to any characters yet. They better not take too long with that...which was Flashforward's downfall. Characters should always come first then the story premise so that we can be engaged with their predicaments.
But this feels very Flashforwardy but I'm beginning to realise its looking a bit too ambitious, and would dangerously fall over its feet, as happened with Heroes, Flashforward and many others. Lost is an exception, but it got away with plotlines because the characters and relationships were absolutely dynamite from day 1.
But the first episode was good enough for me to look forward to the next episode of The Event :)

Went to the recording of "Have I Got News For You" last night... (series 40, show 1, on BBC1 tonight)
I don't know how they edit this down to 30 minutes because we were there 2 and a half hours, and I can honestly say I have never laughed so much in my life, Paul Merton was on top form.
It's great to see all the chatter inbetween, and how the whole show is recorded, so will try and get in there again in the future...

Yeah its on channel 5, think a monday night at 10pm. They'll probably break up live on their show just to give us viewers the full blown reality TV experience
