Just got back from a packed out Poole Empire cinema where a load of people were unable to get in as too many tickets had been issued. As for the film i was surprised i liked it even though there were some,(how shall i put it),animal cruelty scenes. The story was just right for a lazy sunday morning, no thinking needed just go with the flow. The elephant Rosie played her scenes very well, what a star. :D o/

I too really enjoyed this film but was a bit uncomfortable with the kissing scenes with Reese and Robert as I still see him as a teenager. I did get tears in my eyes with the cruelty towards Rosie as I adore animals and wanted to deck August quite a few times. I've had tears in my eyes 3 times in 3 days (the Royal Wedding, Britains got Talent and now this).

I saw it this morning at a packed Islington Vue, with people sitting on the floor as well, which I don't think it is something allowed by H&S regulations...

I must say I did not enjoy the movie much and not only for the animal cruelty bits and because I am not a circus fan as a whole. Did not like the two principals while Christhoph Waltz was again the baddie you cannot help but hate wholeheartedly. Did not find the story catchy and original enough and did not like cinematography and direction at all. 5/10 for me.

Ive only just realised after you've said it.

Mentioned by David in his film blog some postings back.

Interesting to read some very diverging opinions. I really liked this. It surprised me, which is a nice surprise because I feel like I've spent a lot of time ranting lately! Pattinson didn't bother me, felt really captivated by the story and Christopher Waltz was fantastic. Wrote a bit more to explain myself here: https://moviefilmreviews.wordpress.com/ ... elephants/

Your husband/father (depending on who's reading) sat next to us. He didn't like it very much.

Islington was packed and the tickets said '10.30am', but the woman at the desk said they weren't going to start till 11.00am. Luckily it was full by 10.30am so they started. Yes there were people sitting on the steps. There were the odd single seats dotted here and there, if people came before the film started/lights went down, they would have seen them and wouldn't have had to sit on the steps.

The early cinema goer gets the best seats.
We enjoyed it, apart from the animal cruelty scenes, but then again it was a film and I'm sure no animal was hurt in the making of the film.

I don't get the point about Robert Pattinson playing Jacob. What have I missed?

Just got back from watching this and I couldn't stop looking away....all the animal beatings...
Didn't help the fact that a woman was talking loudly to her friend for ages :blahblah: when she finally shut up she took her shoes off and put her sweaty smelly feet on the seat next to me :X

To be fair the film was good in a way that it shows what happens behind the scenes at dodgy circus's

Hi there, not long back from seeing this at Clydebank this morning, what a lovely little movie for a sunday morning i thoroughly enjoyed it all even though the screen room we were in was absolutely freezing i was 2 rows from the back and the draft was just beyond a joke so much so that i left with 30 min to go and requested they do something about it pronto!! the lady i seen was very accomodating and before long i was able to relax tbh i should have done it at the start of the film lol it seems film etiquette is long dead seemed like every 2 mins someone or another was out their seat for something pfffft!! if it was you shame on you LOL This film is a very moving love story with a few more little story's intertwined, it was sweet beautiful, charming and also some harrowing scene's thrown in just to keep us on our toes there was one scene in particular which made both me and the other half jump damn near out of our skins haha!! i wont spoil it for you if you see the film you'll know which bit ;) very well acted too i rate this 8/10 great film for a sunday morning however i dont see it being a major blockbuster :D

Very good. One of the best previews for a while. Just as well I got there nice and early because Islington Vue was absolutely packed. The last time I think it was this full was for Paul Verhoeven's "Black Book" a few years ago - then I seem to remember people actually sitting on crates as well as the steps!! Either somebody didn't match up the tickets allocated with the number of seats available or we had a few gatecrashers...

Great film otherwise. The structure of the old man's (main character's) nostalgic retelling reminded me a little of the old woman's recount in Titanic. One unresolved issue - Robert Pattinson doesn't seek out the old guy's son as he says he would in the film???

I was at Islington this mornign for this. I'm really glad I got up early after getting in and settled late last night. What a fantastic film. I loved it. Christopher Waltz was just spectacular. He's so good at being a total dick. This was the first Pattinson film I've seen and I thought he did a good job in the role. Reese Witherspoon was great (is she ever not?) and of course the elephant was wonderful. The abuse scenes were very difficult to watch, but then, that's the point. I thought this was all really well-done and would highly recommend this. 9/10

Went to this preview at Odeon Milton Keynes this morning, 75% full. It was OK, I didn't like the cruelty to animal scenes, and got a bit bored part way through and was looking at my watch to see how much longer.

    I suppose I would give it 7/10.
