Songlines Music Awards 2012: Get free track downloads from winning albums

From now until 4 May, Guardian Extra members can download a free track from each of the winning albums in this year's Songlines Music Awards


Launched in 2008, the Songlines Music Awards celebrate and acknowledge musical talent from around the globe. This year, Songlines readers and the general public were asked to choose from more than 600 artists with albums reviewed in Songlines magazine, creating a shortlist of 16 nominations.

The four categories are Best Artist, Best Group, Cross-Cultural Collaboration and Newcomer. The Songlines editorial team selected the winners from the top four in each category.

The winners are:

Best Artist: Anoushka Shankar for the album Traveller on DG.

Best Group: Tinariwen for the album Tassili on V2.

Cross-Cultural Collaboration: Yo-Yo Ma, Stuart Duncan, Edgar Meyer & Chris Thile for the album The Goat Rodeo Sessions on Sony Classical.

Newcomer: Fatoumata Diawara for the album Fatou on World Circuit.

Guardian Extra members can download a full track from each of the four winning albums. The offer, which is exclusive to Extra members, expires at midnight on 4 May 2012.
