My previous neighbour always used to trim the hedge between our front gardens, gutted when he moved and have to do it myself now. I cant do at the moment due to a bad shoulder so getting now overgrown :( neighbour's side is worse than mine though.

Where's good to b*y bulbs? I want grape hyacinth (muscari). Homebase, Poundland, Waitrose and 99p store don't have any... Nor does the nearest gardening centre. So what London chains/shops have I missed (I am a townie) please?

I can b*y online, but more expensive and have to p*y postage.

Thanks.

The only other place I can think of trying is Wilkinson (Wilko) if you have one in your area, very reasonable for bulbs and they have a large variety.

Here is a picture of the grown, spring onion cut off's

I may cut the top for a stew and leave the root in the ground to keep going.

The mint is in an old chip pan innards but it still manged to escape. It grew tall then fell over, where it touched the ground it rooted - have now taken the new 'cutting' out and re potted.
That looks brilliant and you've certainly inspired me. I have had my first home grown rocket for lunch today perfect with my beef and horseradish sauce.

Well I was in your nearest garden centre (North One on Englefield Road) today and they had lots of packs of muscari. They were even very reasonably priced -- think it was 30 bulbs for £2.70 or something. So stroll on down there, SS.

Thanks. I read that Lidl had five packet of bulbs for £5 or one for £1.29 so got some there.

Thinking Lidl is doing some gardening promotion in general.

99p Store is doing 3 for 2 on gardening stuff, while stocks last. I bumped into my neighbour's gardener in there, so he was giving me some advice.

A new guy has just moved in and his garden is adjacent to part of mine. He's been cutting back bushes and trees that overhang from my downstair's neighbour's garden into mine and his, so I saw him last Sunday night having a ciggie and asked him if he'd cut a branch off for me, which he has now done. Plus he offered to cut more back o/.

I like this guy, I may even offer him some cuttings.

Thought I hadn't seen any slugs or snails in the garden. We have a hedgehog in the wood pile. We were going to move it to the bunker but the wood can stay where it is as we have enough for the moment.

Lucky you, I think I need a hedgehog as my garden is full of slugs and snails, despite all the stuff I put down to get rid of them they still keep coming :noo:

What did you do to grown your spring onion baty, I throw loads of the ends away is this all you used, how did you make them grow?

I cut off the root part and put in water for 24 hrs to try and re-hydrate the roots.
Now it depends on how 'lucky' I feel, I will either place them directly in the soil or -
I keep yogurt pots for 'useful' purposes, OH says I just hoard things!! I then put the roots in the yoghurt pot with some soil/compost/ whatever is at hand. They stayed on the window sill till I can see that it starts to put out a green sprout then check the roots and put out.

The ones in the photo had been left over the summer. I am goining to look for a shallow but largish pot to try and grow on spring onions over the winter. Trouble is --running out of window sills.

I took/was given  flower seeds which I am growing

Looking for a place to get the Jalopeanos through the winter, I have found out that chilli plants can live longer than one year.

Image
These are big boys and I fear that I will have to clear the sill in the computer (dumping) room. They wont survive outside so will have to come in soon.

OH, I will spray with bug stuff, to prevent me growing the insects as well!
