One of the best films I have seen in a while. Brillaintly acted and scripted. Is strange that they got the same person to play both Winkelvoss twins though, wouldnt it have been easier to cast actuall twins??

Fascinating article comparing it to a Wagner opera from 1869:

In short: the first truly modern film since the internet became widespread, yet as timeless as any great story.

A friend said to me that they weren't too interested in this as they didn't get facebook or have any interest in social networking over the internet. Why would she then be interested in the rise of facebook and all the bickering behind it? Well I told her that the film is much more than that - and in some ways a lot more simple. It is about people, relationships (business and personal), friendship, jealousy and betrayal. For me that is strength of the film. They just got that part spot on and it is very well told.

The casting was fantastic, I don't think there was a weak link. Jesse Eisenberg really impressed me. Zuckerberg didn't come across as a likeable character and was seriously lacking in general people skills and empathy - sociopath is too strong a word but there were points where his tactlessness was astonishing. However there were times where I still felt sorry for him. It wasn't a flattering portrayal but the characters were not black and white. I recognised the guy that played the Winklevoss brothers from Reaper (a show that used to come on E4) and he was good too. As was Timberlake's Parker and the actor who played Eduardo.

Was quite long but I didn't feel it at all. One of the better films I've seen this year. 9/10.

RE: the twins

For me it's a clue to one of the film's themes. Genetically, there's no closer bond than that between twins, and they're even played by the same person, yet they're very different people who think about things in an entirely different manner. The ironic set-up implies the futility, the inevitable shortcomings of human connectivity.

As for what makes Zuckerberg the man he is, a Bob Dylan lyric I've had as my Facebook description for a while says it nicely...

Always on the outside of whatever side there was.
When they asked him why it had to be that way, "Well" he answered, "just because".

Just saw it again and treated my dad to it with a certain Picturehouse gift card I happen to have acquired somehow. ;)

I'm pretty confident it's in my top ten of all time. It's not only the best film of the year, but it's also incredibly important culturally.

Even if you don't think you'll like it, you HAVE to see it.

I convinced someone to go and see it last week, he saw it and told me he found it boring and didn't like it, however, he added he was glad he saw it.
I guess that's something.

I was initially put off by the subject matter, being a Facebook refusnik, but in the end I thought, well its David Fincher so it should be watchable. I loved the film, its brilliantly structured and really cleverly unpicks the dynamics of when friendships go wrong. Eisenberg is brilliant, the Winklevoss twins are hilariously played by one actor and Justin Timberlake is really good as a very unsympathetic character. A very satisfying movie.
