Re: Brave
Finally watched this tonight. I love Pixar. I want to have their little CGI babies. I'm also a fan of Steve Purcell, the writer of Brave and creator of detective duo Sam and Max (if you've played the game or watched the TV series, you'll know what I'm talking about). I'd seen a few TV snippets of this movie and thus went in expecting Braveheart, the animated version. What I got was typically forgettable Disney-fare, gorgeously animated but completely ungrounded in reality. The story is where the movie fails, especially in how it seems to borrow all the charming elements from the much superior 'How To Train Your Dragon'. In short, it has its plus points but it's definitely not up to Pixar's usual standards.
Ranking-wise, I've got it placed somewhere between Cars 1 and Cars 2....and that about says it all.

Re: Brave
I finally saw Brave today in glorious 2D, and it's absolutely terrific.
The animated landscape is exquisite and looked very real, Merida's hair was amazing and the voices fantastic. Loved Billy Connolly as the King and Kelly Macdonald as Merida ("I'm shoot'n for my own hand in marriage!"). Despite her name, it never occured to me that the actress could be Scottish (likewise with Jane from Eastenders until I heard her in Waterloo Road), so it was a pleasant surprise. I love most Scottish accents and understood it all apart from that one clan son obviously but I think that was a deliberate joke and piss-take of the fact that everyone says they can't understand the Scottish.
I loved the mother-daughter conflict, it was so real. I loved that Merida was so fiery and brave yet vulnerable at the same time. I laughed so much and so loud in this film as the wit was so sharp and there were so many good gags like for example the witch in the cauldron with her call centre-style "press option 1 for sales and option 2 if you're that red-haired lass" texts. I loved the expressions on the bear's face. I loved the antics of the 3 little brothers and the message of acceptance and that fate isn't unchangeable. It even made me well up at the end though not as much as in Up.
This could comfortably have been a bit longer!
9.5/10

Re: Brave
I just watched it today (I know, where was I hiding, right?) and it was cute, but talk about missed opportunities. The secondary characters could have been built up better, they could have told a story, and as it were, they just appeared, did nothing and disappeared.
Lucky the princess was not a delicate flower in need of a strong man, and her hair was animated to perfection, or it would have been just average. But like I said, lucky, so I enjoyed it.

Re: Brave
Took me a while but finally got round to watching this movie this morning at Cineworld with my kids....although technically their both official teeny boppers now! We thought it was absolutely brilliant, the animation was just superb. 10/10

Preferred cinemas: Any in Edinburgh!

Re: Brave
Still stunning and thoroughly exquisite animation.
Simply gorgeous.
Saw this at a virtually empty BAFTA screening tonight in Edinburgh. They must have even started La Luna - the short early as it was nearly finished when I went in and I was not late.
