I've been reading a bit of poetry recently (such as Thomas Hardy's Drummer Hodge and Transformations) and thought I would have a go myself. So here I am putting finishing touches to a poem whilst listening to Genesis. What a strange thing to be doing at 23:35 on a wednesday evening.

Did you finish it? Maybe we should have a poetry thread??

Barbara Vine/Ruth Rendell's The Chimney-Sweep's Boy, which was free with Red magazine some months back. Not my usual genre and I was going to recycle it but decided it'd be good to take away as very light and it wouldn't matter if it got damaged or I discarded it - which I did as soon as I'd finished it. Started on the next Red freebie immediately: a Val McDermid whodunnit. Now I've realised how useful these freebies are, I'm hoping they offer some more before my next trip!

havent read anything recently, but at xmas i read Flood by Stephen Baxter, one of his more accessible sci fi works. Its about a big flood lol, that starts by flooding parts of Australia but ends up submerging the world including Mount Everest!! Thisn benig possible becasue we accidentally opened vast reservoirs of underground water through mining - a proper extinction event.

I finished the book at about the same time the floods in AUstralia were happening, so hearing about that after reading it at the beginning of the book really scared my socks off.

Finished The Maltese Falcon. Thought it was brilliant, with some great descriptions and attention to detail. Now aspiring to read the satirical novel "Catch-22" which I picked up in my school library today.

I spent a fiver or something in WH Smith yesterday and got a voucher for a half price copy of Room by Emma Donoghue. Has anyone here read it? I might give it a whirl. It's not a book I'd usually go for I don't think, but if it turns out to be a bargain then I might.

During my journey into work, I read hundreds (ok bit of an exaggeration but you get the idea) of books...... my favs are Martina Cole and if you like her then you would also like Jessie Keane, June Hampson, Maggie Hudson and Kimberly Chambers to name but a few. As I read so much, I used to have lots of books that needed good homes. A good website to trade/sell your used books is http://www.greenmetropolis.com/ They give 5p to the Woodland Trust for every book sold.

As much as I love my books, I was lucky enough to get given an Amazon Kindle for my birthday. Still getting used to it, but I like it!

Id love to be able to read one book, but if i fancied reading a particular chapter from an old book....I could switch! So much easier than carrying a load of books with me!
Thats it now, youve just made me decided what I want for my birthday!

On a book note, for world book night I got a voucher for £5 off a £20 spend, soooooo, anyone got any suggestions?

Must admit, wasnt a fan at first but now I have one I am being won over. I am at the moment only using mine for reading, but you can do so much with it. LIke you say, you can highlight partlicular passages that you may want to read again.

I find it handy as I then dont have to carry more than one book in case I finish reading one mid journal. Also they are so much lighter than books and you dont have to worry about getting hand cramps reading the big heavy hard backs on worrying like me that you may drop it on someones head/lap in a moment of hand weekness

Ill be the first to admit I have actually dropped a few books on my face whilst attempting to read
