AYBG wrote:It's a very interesting film to think about too - as in Fight Club and A Clockwork Orange I think the film's portrayal of violence is meant to appeal to the inner borderline-fascist, the kind that cheers on the action hero in films like Die Hard. Or in this film, if you were glad Landa didn't "get away with it"! Aldo Raine may hate the Nazis, and for all the cultural differences (three fingers) and Jews-are-rats-Germans-are-hawks schtick, there's little difference between them. The Nazi film, consisting of little more than a man shooting lots of people, and the audience's reaction was Tarantino's way of holding up the mirror at us. Bravo.
Funnily enough I've found an article that illustrates my idea better than I could have (especially the second page) while coming to the completely wrong conclusion:

Hi All, first post here,

My verdict - QT has finally lost his few remaining marbles. I don't mind potentially offensive or obtuse films if they are good (like Reservoir Dogs), but doing so for the sake of mediocrity and banality...that really is offensive!

And...did Landa really know who Shosanna was?

Yeah if I had to pick and mix the prizes I got from them, it'd probably be the two I got! Most definitely the Dave Gibbons one at any rate :)

I thought this was a great film although I overheard some people saying they thought it was based on fact, however to clarify it is based on fiction. Great fiction, however.

I just saw this tonight and for a Tarantino movie I can say only one thing about it.

Nowhere near enough gratuitous violence. Pity.
