Is anyone going to stick up for holidaying in the UK? No offence to anyone here, but apart from the environmental considerations (not to mention others such as travel delays, etc), there is so much to see! I am about to go away for my 8th short break/holiday in the UK this year; it won't be the last and I am already booking more for 2011.

I too love the UK and there is so many places I haven't visited, I want to do a weekend break in Edinburgh before Christmas as I've never been and know nothing about it. I also love visiting European cities. I'm not good at relaxing holidays I'm probably too nosey and love exploring new places.

I like to see the UK using the Travelodge £9 nights. Going to Ilminster next weekend. Didn't have a clue where it was only that it was £18 for accomodation for the weekend - we do a lot of that.

Had to look it up on the map, (now armed with the good pub guide), really looking forward to it.

When we were children we always had our holidays in caravans in the UK. My mum said it was good to get to know your own country first. We never went abroad until 1987! My parents had never been in a plane before. I have fond memories of our summers all being hot and sunny. I don't think the weather was quite as bad as it can be now. I like the UK. The North West coast of Scotland is incredible.

I can understand though that a lot of people go visit their own country last as you want to see different things in your holiday. We went all over Europe when I was little, funnily leaving the UK widely out. So now I am catching up on the UK (which technically still is a foreign country to me) and doing more of Germany as well which I never did before.

I don't mind going away in the UK but I'm not going to lie I just much much prefer going abroad, Inot just for the weather because I've been to some pretty cold places as well as hot ones but I just find visiting other cultures and seeing all their sites much more interesting than ours.

When we were little we couldn't really afford holidays so Mum would take us on Coach trips for a week round various Uk places of interest. REally good fun. I guess my problem with English holidays is that they are so expensive and the weather is pretty dodgy.
