This has all happened because they want bums on seats for every event, which in fact means they want bums on seats for the television cameras, just to make the games "look" the part.
Personally I only like track and field events, I would be bored silly watching anything else, if they put me in front of the cameras watching archery, we would be the laughing stock of the world because I and no doubt many others would sleep through the event, wake me up when it's over!
