God that's still horrible. My mum's N reg car is only worth about £200, but so much more to her, and it still goes fine. I am so sorry you will have to shell out for a new car

Sorry to hear you have had a terrible day andrews. If you have their details can you claim on their insurance ? IF they have insurance!!! Seems awful that you have to p*y out for something that was not your fault.

Oh I've got their details - that's not the issue. I know that when I take the car to the garage which the insurance company recommend, I will be told that the repairs will exceed the value of the car, and it will be declared a writeoff. I'm faced with the prospect of having to shell out for another car.

I'm sorry, too, about this, Andrews. I have heard that you can negotiate with insurers to keep a car they wish to write off - I think you take whatever they're prepared to offer and get the car repaired at a garage of your choice. But it might still cost more than you'd want to add to the insurance value.

Really sorry to hear about this Andrews. Our ancient but low mileage car was vandalised some time back -- I actually heard them breaking into it and shouted that the police were on the way and the miserable sods ran off but the damage was more than the car's book value in spite of hardly any miles on it. I did appeal the amount the insurance company offered and they upped it a small amount. I had hoped to trade that car in when they had the vehicle scrappage but that was no longer possible so those vandals did me out of a lot of money in the end. And it was very sad to see our old car towed away.

As for the advice that you can get the car repaired yourself, do take care. If the insurers say it isn't economic to repair and p*y you a sum of money for it, then the car is taken away. So if they write it off you cannot keep it and get it repaired privately. I wished I had never reported it to the insurance company in the end.

Someone went into my 15 year old parked car some years ago and the insurance company said the same thing and wrote it off as a class 'c' write off & pa*d me what they thought it was worth (a pittance) but as it was still roadworthy albeit with a bit dent on the back wing I was allowed to keep it and carried on driving it without getting it repaired. I eventually sold it for about £200......

Yes, it was very good except for one comedian! I think it is the luck of draw who is on that night, but we had a really funny compere and some really original acts.

Are you going again? Didn't think the comedians were any good as when I went to jongleurs they weren't even funny!
