He's more fun than Ricky Gervais, and at least people like Ron Howard are going along with the joke of him stalking Carey Mulligan than the stars being alienated by the jokes.

Shame

#26 Post by spudmulkahee » Sun Dec 11, 2011 12:48 pm

Saw this in Paris yesterday during general release. One commentator (Kevin Knapman) above says that he isn't sure why Cissy (thought it was Sissy) and Brandon behave that way. Here's a clue. They left Ireland for New York when Brandon was eight years old. They don't talk about their parents. I don't wish to be flip, but hello child abuse. Evidence: when Cissy crawls into bed with Brandon. Also, she does not ask that much about his sex obsession. The question is, is this a good film about child abuse, given the characters don't sort themselves out? This potato isn't sure, but it's compelling just the same apart from one long take when Brandon goes out running. Bit of a tune out moment, that. Spud out.

I went to Wimbledon as well o/ I really didn't like this at all. Far too slow for me. When she was singing, I was praying for it to get a move on

I agree. I thought that song was far too long and pretentious. Added nothing to an otherwise very slow and plodding film.

I'd say it was pants (except that nobody had any on for any length of time)!

I think The Guardian readers present were stunned into silence - all walked out at the end without so much as a word. Lol.

SHAME- that I left my nice cosy house to go out in the wind and cold to watch this utter rubbish!!!!! :X

Slow boring singing, slow music to his long boring run, slow music to him travelling up in the lift - yawn, yawn!! Not even the sight of his naked body could make me give this any more than a 3/10!
