My youngest daughter is a charge nurse in a nursing home and I have given some to her in the past. Her husband is worse than me he even keeps books that he has read in case he wants to read them again and they are all stored in the attic.

i was just thinking (morbidly!!) .. say something happened and you did lose it all .. its only possessions and clothes ... we really shouldn't hoard. and we shouldn't get too attached to things, but you do!! i moved 8 years ago from a 2-bed flat to a 4-bed house .. the kids were still young so we had a load of toys .. due to the extra space, we didn't need to get rid - we ended up b*ying a snooker table and an indoor goal!!!

I think we all get attached to certain things, I have the first babygrow the kids wore, the first outfit and first pair of shoes, I still have my first teddybear, but don't have a case in the loft with the rest of every outfit they have ever worn, I just don't see the point in keeping things that have served their purpose and are no longer useful.

......but I would love a snooker table!

i don't feel guilty about wasting money on stuff, cos most of my stuff (if not all!!) is bargain-based. most of my bedding and towels is thanks to Tesco doubling their vouchers!! i too shopped at asda today (online) and got 10 items of clothing for the kids (teens, so 'small' men!!) .. less than £40. And I can remember only having one skirt and two blouses for school ... my kids have 7 shirts each (there's 3 of them), just in case i can't wash them in time!! two pairs of trousers each, so they have a clean pair every day .. i make myself more work, cos it's muggins 'ere who has to iron it all!!!

and can anyone tell me why - WHY- i have kept untold runs of carpet that was left over when we laid a new one??!!! and i bet im not alone there either!!!!

i don't have a case in the loft either - it's in the hoover cupboard, under the stairs!!!! again, why i've kept some, i really don't know ... none of my kids are gonna want their brand new babies in second-hand clothes, no matter what their history and condition ... but the ones i've kept are sooooo cute!!

OMG Andrews what have you started lol

I am the same as you jojo, most of my items have been free or very cheap glitches, mainly tesco in the past, but my recent handwash glitch was asda/sainsburys, and I cant resist a bargain, probably why I love free films. When my kids were small they had uniform for every day and spares and like you it was me who had to iron it all. Thankfully now they are all grown up and I now only iron about once a month as I wait until my supply of tops is getting low.

I must admit a friend came to my house recently, I rarely invite people to my house partly because I am embarassed by the clutter and the fact that my hall has been in the process of being prepared for decoration for at least 8 years, though I am slowly getting there, and it did spur me to clear out a few things as I was so embarrassed by the mess

Beate - I love the I dont hoard I collect, me too it sounds much better.

iron about once a month??!! i long for that!! i iron throughout the day!! (i have 2 irons .. i wouldn't call that hoarding, that's sensible - in case one stops working!!) .. i'm an 'organised hoarder'!! everything is tidy and has its own place. And it's all in cupboards etc, so you can't actually see it ... but it's there!!! boy oh boy is it there!!!

I love the way everybody has an excuse of justifying why they keep things they don't really want or need.

Having plenty of uniform is not hoarding though, we have plenty of uniform, but if your keeping the stuff they have grown out of, the shirt with the button missing etc....
