Tense, good world building and excellent performance by Saoirse Ronan. Very decent adaptation from the novel as well. 8/10

I hadn't read the book but saw the film today and thought it was a decent film. I'm a big fan of Saoirse Ronan and thought all the young actors were very good.

I did want to know what happened to the two brothers though, thought not being told was a bit of a cop out.

BTW cousins can legally marry so the relationship didn't bother me in the slightest and Daisy's nail varnish was badly chipped. I made a point of checking whilst hiding my own very badly chipped nails in embarrassment

7/10

Went to see this earlier today and to be honest it felt like two different movies had been spliced together  .

The first hour or so was clearly geared towards the teen section of the audience, then it went to a pretty dark place only to jump back again during the final ten minutes (have to say that I wasn't feeling this at all during the teen sections but was quite enthralled by what occurred in between them).

I'm not Saoirse Ronan's biggest fan but thought she was okay in this (although she was playing yet another relatively unsympathetic character) and Harley Bird (great name BTW) was really good, her character could have easily been very annoying (and admittedly she was, a little bit any way, at the beginning) but instead she turned out to be the strongest & consequently most likeable out of the cousins (the rest of which I was admittedly pretty indifferent to).

All in all this was one of the oddest movies I've seen recently but due to the pretty decent dark section plus Harley Bird's performance I think it did (just) enough to get a 7/10 from me...
