Re: Valentines Day
Well I liked it, obviously not the greatest film in the world but it was a nice romcom that was enjoyable, nothing to serious which I like now and then. Some funny moments especially involving Anne Hathaway also some very sweet moments. Plus it had Bradley Cooper in who is gorgeous and a couple of other guys who aren't to hard on the eye so that's always a plus.

Avatar has been knocked off the top spot after seven weeks by romantic drama Valentine's Day.
Valentine's Day boasts a number of huge stars, including Julia Roberts, Jamie Foxx, Bradley Cooper and Taylor Lautner, and it seems the film has captured the hearts of UK cinemagoers after taking nearly £4 million.
(Avatar's nine week stint in the UK charts has now earned the film £77 million so far).

Re: Valentines Day
I saw this today on a £2.60 cheap day Tuesday ticket at Vue. The cinema was 80% full which was quite impressive for 5.10 on a Tuesday!
Yes, it's a cliche throughout but it's perfectly watchable rom-com fodder and I quite enjoyed it in a non-brain-taxing manner! I liked the Ashton Kutcher charachter but that's possibly as he was one of those few with enough screen time to allow the charachter to expand? I was surprised at earlier comments about the two Taylors being the best charachters - i'm afraid I just wanted to slap both of them!
For £2.60 I can't complain. It passed a couple of hours and was generally cheery (as well as very cheesy!) :-)

People who go and fund these shit films, and think that they're decent, are a big part of the reason that the romantic comedy is such a dire genre today, and has been so for ages. It is the absolute backwater of cinema.
When will people look back at Preston Sturges, Billy Wilder, Ernst Lubitsch, Howard Hawks, Frank Capra, then realise that the crap that gets served up these days is not good enough, and stop funding it?

Re: Valentines Day
I went to see this film today and found it very amusing in places. It was marvellous seeing all these stars together on the screen, but as alythonian has said, there was very little time for their characters to develop fully, and Ashton Kutcher was the only one who got a lot of screen time. It was a rom com puzzle, everyone's lives intertwined in one way and another, and I loved Anne Hathaway's other job - adult phone entertainer
It was just what I needed today - light, frivolous and frothy, a film where you don't actually have to think a lot, and we all need that from time to time. Go and see it if you want absolute light relief from the rigours of your everyday life.
And the cast so enjoyed making this film, they are already signing up for the sequel - New Year.

Re: Valentines Day
Apparently Julia Roberts got $3 million for the 6 or so minutes she's appears in the film - if that doesn't tell you something about the kind of film it is, and the kind of film they set out to make, then I don't know what will!
Still, it has to be said that if there are that many people out there willing to part with £8 (or even £2.60!) to see such a film then perhaps you can hardly blame the studios for serving it up to them on a platter...
