Re: Eye in the Sky
Really enjoyed this in an absolutely packed Vue - North Finchley.
Although it might not be "reality", it gave an interesting insight into modern military operations (i.e. drone attacks and the decisions that lead to them). Not sure how this compares with "Good Kill" which is for another debate.
In terms of the story and production, felt similar to 12 Angry Men where the moral and ethical arguments can be appreciated from all parties including how the British politicians were seen as being quite diplomatic in terms of approach to the targets while the Americans were quite blunt and stead-fast in what was action was needed.
Gripping throughout and highly recommended.

Re: Eye in the Sky
Saw this in Picturehouse Crouch End which was 3/4 full.
It was a good film which gave an interesting insight into modern military operations but it became a bit repetitive and it felt like pulling teeth. Although having said that, I would still recommend it as it's definitely worth seeing.

Re: Eye in the Sky
I loved this film as I think it should how importance intelligence is nowadays and particularly using modern technology. . . .and yet, the final action still involves an individual. Thought the interaction between all the characters was great though
Surprisingly I did think Helen Mirren was a credible colonel and Alan Rickman was great as the military man. I don't know how true to life all the 'checking' with politicians was but I was frustrated at the time it took. This made me almost sit on the edge of my seat and I was willing for someone to do something! I know what I would have done which is why I wondered how true life this was.
Definitely worth viewing!

Looks as if you're making good use of your Odeon Limitless card. Try and catch The Jungle Book on the IMAX screen as it's pretty impressive. I believe that you need to p*y a £4 upgrade for IMAX.McG wrote:I loved this film as I think it should how importance intelligence is nowadays and particularly using modern technology. . . .and yet, the final action still involves an individual. Thanks, scootermcc. I'm definitely making the most of my card. There's another Hindi film I really fancy seeing this week too called 'Fan'. I've already seen Jungle Book once but probably make another visit . . .might do Imax for a small fee!

Re: Eye in the Sky
I really didn't like this film. Yes it was interesting seeing how the mechanic's of a drone strike work but it makes me wonder how much of that is actually real ie drone beetle and drone bird. It was very slow passed, little action and although I understand the political and moral obligations of the task at hand, it still left a very bad taste in my mouth because it highlighted the fact that a lot of people involved in this process are disposable, from the little girl to the man on the ground to the man working out the fatality percentages taking the fall back when things go wrong.

Helen Mirren said in interview, that the drone beetle and bird exist. They are cutting edge technology.

Re: Eye in the Sky
I loved the film. It kept me on the edge of my seat. Helen Mirren was wonderful in her role and Alan Rickman was excellent in his final performance. How he managed to keep his temper with that damn annoying female politician who was the person who put the young girl in danger with her red tape amazed me.
I can well imagine these things happen nowadays as civilians meddle in military matters. I was gritting my teeth and muttering under my breath.
Hard decisions have to be made and must be made with a cold detached eye. Emotion can't play a part.
However, I do understand how difficult it must be if you are the one person who releases the bomb. Doing so from an airplane is one thing but watching it happen is totally different. Seeing a small child and knowing you personally will kill her can't be easy.

It was good that for once, we didn't get a happy ending as it rarely happens in real life.

Re: Eye in the Sky
I enjoyed this partly as a tense drama, as I'd expected, but also as a kind of absurdist satire like W1A or The Thick of It.
Alan Rickman's withering delivery and some of the situations meant it was laugh out loud funny at times and then in the next scene I was on the on the edge of my seat.
A very good film and a fittingly strong performance for Alan Rickman's final movie. 8/10
