Saw this at Screen 4 Fulham Cineworld tonight. Terribly cramped seats and the film was a complete let down. There didn't seem to be much point to the film which was stagey and overblown. I also found the product placement rather blatant: Kronenberg beer, Kit kat chocolate, Ambassador cigarettes and I think, Seabrooks crisps.

2/10.

i said this already on mse - i thought it was an amazing experiment in cinema and theatre. it reminded me of dogville - in that it the performances were theatrical but on a screen. i thought it was witty and clever but it did drag in points. nonetheless i was mesmerised. withinin minutes i knew that it would have problems on general release as it is largely talking heads in limited locations.

i can add here where i can talk about the ending - that i liked the ending too about redemption and forgiveness. i was with a man who really had a bad breakup and he completely emphasised with the ray winston character. we had along discussion about forgiveness after.

there is also lots and lots of swearing. it reminded me of people i actual know ;-) john hurt's cantankerous old git was a great laugh.

an 8/10 for me. i am looking forward to seeing it again. there is a lot of posturing but some powerful performances, too. it could be subtitled discourses on white working class masculinities.

It's not often I can't think of anything positive to say about a film, but...........

....er, at least this was short.

I agree with others that there seemed little point to it all, very slight story may at a push have made a decent half hour drama.

As for all the swearing - now swearing can be great in a dramatic way ie Goodfellas or for laughs Big Lebowski / Curb Your Enthusiasm, but as with rest of the film there seemed little point or reason to the language. Therefore the c***'s and f***'s just washed over you and the later scenes which should have been more tense or dramatic where as flat as the rest of it.

Such a shame with a very good cast. 2/10.

How did this writers of Sexy Beast o/ o/ o/ o/ o/ come with this TOSH : :nono: :nono: :nono:

I thought Ray Winstone was excellent (as always) but after a promising first 5/10 minutes the story just went nowhere and the "East End Gangster" Talk was laughable in places........John Hurt was a big disappointment what a waste of a talented actor.

I can't remember the exact wording but Jonathan Ross on Film 2010 last night said something along the lines of the script had been written by people who obviously hadn't met many "Real Gangsters" and I'm inclined to agree with him

The only touch I was impressed with was that the adulterer said nothing in the entire film which added to the tension of the scenes with Colin Diamond (Geezer)

Yay! (Selfishly), you have all made my night by telling me how cr@p this film was. Glad we missed it now due to the car throwing a huff! Thanks for the candid reviews - gonna steer clear of this film when it's released.

Saw this last night and was disappointed. Basically it was about 5 older guys moaning about one of their friends wife being unfaithful and nothing else. Every second word was a swear word and there was no violence whatsoever . I wished I hadn't bothered really as I would have rather have been at home. 1/10

It wasn't as violent as I would have liked. Seeing as it was a gangster film it was quite mild.
