Excellent film, surprisingly subdued romantic drama with sci-fi elements that builds towards a thrilling climax without losing track of the core of the characters that are well developed throughout, despite sequences of pure exposition at times, including Matt Damon turning to Emily Blunt and saying "We're being chased" in the middle of a chase scene.
Damon, Blunt, Mackie and Slattery are superb, the film looks fantastic and plays out really well, a bit of a slow pace at points, and the jumping years at a time can be a problem in continually attaching to the leads, but the film pulls it all together for a climax that satisfies. Smart, sensible sci-fi drama.
8/10

Not bad, not bad. I did very much like the sci-fi incorporation into a love story, and the film had several Dickian touches which made it a thrilling watch. I can't be bothered with a full review now, but I'd give it 8/10.

Enjoyed this a lot. A beautifully shot and very affecting sci-fi romance. It works because of the fantastic chemistry between Damon and Blunt. I suspect that if it had been made with two big stars with no chemistry it would have just been a lot of sci-fi nonsense about men in magic hats going through special doorways. But they make a very believable couple (Their initial flirting scenes are wonderfully done), which means you're rooting for them to succeed even when the more far-fetched elements of the story kick in.

The supporting cast are really good too with Slattery, Mackie and Stamp doing great work as the adjusters. Surprised that such an established actress as Jennifer Ehle had such a tiny role though (Brooklyn Ice House Bartender). I wondered if some of her scenes had been cut. Having said that her role in The King's Speech wasn't exactly huge either.

Well shot with a really good score by Thomas Newman, The Adjustment Bureau marks a fine debut for George Nolfi and is well worth seeing. With this and Rango being released on the same day it's looking pretty good for smart Hollywood movies at the moment.

What a shame there were no previews. I really wanted to see this and still do, and it's on at 2 cinemas near me but with ridiculous prices and no deals, so I will have to wait until I can see it somewhere using a voucher or Nectar points. Wish Cineworld accepted those - takes me months to earn one measly Clubcard deal despite the price of petrol.

After mentioning Jennifer Ehle in one of my tweets on twitter about whether there were any more scenes shot involving her I got this message from her:
jenniferehle @kevinknapman nope. I just thought it would be fun. Never even read the script- hope that didn't show in my performance! #adjustmentbureau

How cool is that.

If anyone's interested in the rest of the exchange:

kevinknapman @jenniferehle Of course not. So my hopes for some blu ray deleted scenes showing even more drinks-serving expertise are dashed? Shame.

jenniferehle @kevinknapman :) my further skills as a mixologist remain untapped. If you have a yen for deleted scenes then check out Michael Clayton.

To salvage this day or what's left of it, I've just booked free member's tickets for Adjustment Bureau for tonight at 8pm at the Greenwich Picturehouse. Their 6.10pm was almost sold out already!
