I don't mind either way, but it's a valid point no? If people are opening threads about Lost marathons, Karl Pilkington etc, I would rather have a bon jovi, rod stewart, Design for Living threads as well

Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
I went to see the Human Comedy at the Young Vic on Saturday, really enjoyed it, it's the first time's it's been performed in the UK and it had some really catchy songs (from the guy who wrote Hair). It's nice to see the Young Vic do a musical and one with real energy and vigour. Although not professionals, I thought the chorus was really really good. One of the better off-West End musicals in a while 7.5/10

Andrew Lloyd Webber's Love Never dies must be doing really really badly going by the advertising in the Metro today. Maybe they might do some £9.50 tickets soon....?

Design for Living at the Old Vic
I didn't want to post this before the Monday and Tuesday free tickets for Design for Living were used but my daughter and I saw this last Saturday and we both hated it. The only redeeming thing was the amazing sets, but the play was the most awful nonsense and at 3 hours and 2 intervals we found it so tedious and only stayed until the end so daughter could review it for a theatre website she contributes to. We were amazed that so many people in the audience found it so hysterical.

Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
Anyone else went to the Comedy night at the 99/Storm Club tonight? It's really not a great venue is it, the whole place looks quite dingy with fold up seats.
The first act was Bob Mills, he was the oh so funny, mocking everyone: fat guys, east londoners, northerners, suicide bombers. He's a seasoned pro and his timing was perfect. He wasn't advertised in the original email from SFF.
The second act was Paul Foot, he was the least funny in terms of substance but it's his delivery that made things funny. He spent 5 minutes talking about moist cakes!
Lenny Henry was the headline act and he duly delivered, quite alot of race jokes/fat jokes. He was being filmed for a BBC documentary and preparing material for an upcoming Live at the Apollo show. He did some rapping too. Venue 2/10 but the humour and show was about 7.5/10

Nah, I stopped going to stand up comedy shows because comedians pick on my oh. We went to this place once, and unfortunately only managed to get seats in the front row. Two of the comedians decided to take the piss of my oh, so now he doesn't want to go anymore. Tbh, it really annoys me when people make fun of him for having a (sometimes big) beard.superhero wrote:Anyone else went to the Comedy night at the 99/Storm Club tonight? That sounds really mean. If they do it again, maybe he should find something (however small) about the 'comedians' even if it's a lazy eye, different accent, dodgy T-shirt and pick on them and see how they like it. Sounds like being bullying to me as opposed to comedy.ucakpam wrote:

The comedian was pretending to be a chav. He made my bf turn around twice for everyone to look at him, laughing about the way my bf looks, but didn't find anything clever to joke about. I mean, the guy's whole routine was based on demeaning the audience, either because of age, accent, looks, etc, etc. He got annoyed when some guys in the audience cleverly insulted him.Sunny Saver wrote:That sounds really mean. Gosh that's awful ucak, I would have been so irritated too and not want to go. I'd probably leave half way. I don't find that sort of humour funny when people pick on people. I'm not quite sure what's supposed to be amusing. One of my colleagues is a class comedian and he used to pick on people like that all the time. He was particularly mean to one of my colleagues who was obsese with such rude remarks and it affected the guy so much, he went on a strict diet for one year and lost all the weight cos he believed no one would ever respect/like him as a result of being fat. Now he's slim and goodlooking but even now I can see he no longer enjoys eating food because he's always concious he will put the weight back on.ucakpam wrote: Nah, I stopped going to stand up comedy shows because comedians pick on my oh. Sorry to hear that happened to your OH, ucakpam.
