Mr Selfridge I did enjoy it but it is so similar to The Paradise (which has only just finished) but without the warmth of the characters. Could have done with a few months in between so that I wouldn't be comparing it so much.

I haven't seen Mr Selfridge yet, but I thought it looked similar to The Paradise.

Over the weekend watched :

Splash (perhaps the worst conceived reality show ever !)
Mr Selfridge (lived up to the hype in my opinion - and hard to understand how in 1907/08 it took 1 year to build a building that size - now it would take forever and cost a fortune !!)

Saw inglorious basterds on Saturday and the iron lady yesterday! Hadn't seen them yet since the OH decided to watch them on his own. Enjoyed both of them! Not a bad weekend movies wise.

It caused a bit of friction between the two networks since they were written around the same time, and it seemed as if ITV was copying the BBC, but The Paradise was commissioned first.

Mr Selfridge was delayed so as not to air too close to when The Paradise finished, but I guess Mr Moray et co were still fresh in people's minds.

Mr Selfridge - I was really disappointed in it and soon got bored. I think it has been over-hyped. Only my opinion and I accept it seems to be at odds with others!

More episodes from Season 1 of Homeland; had to almost physically restrain ourselves from watching all the remaining discs...very exciting.

It does all seem very familiar. The Paradise was based on a book by the French writer Emile Zola, written in 1883, inspired by Le Bon Marché department store, and Mr Selfridge is based on Lindy Woodhead’s 2007 biography "Shopping, Seduction and Mr Selfridge". The series may have been written by the same screenwriters. ;)

I love period drama though, so I shall be rivetted!
