A_person: why don't you complain to NatWest, just copy what you wrote here and finetune it a bit, so not too much work. Write in the letter that you want £100 compensation. They might not offer that, but they might come down to £50! I bank with another bank and complained about something, can't remember what, quite banal, and asked for £150 compensation and they gave me something, not that much, but better than a poke in the eye.

PS sorry to hear about your bank frustrations. They are one of the worse, as it's YOUR money!!!

oh, poor you a_person, what a horrible banking experience. I would complain immediately. Like Sunny Saver says, write a letter and ask for compensation. People don't complain enough about the poor services in the UK, and so they get away with it! If more people complain they will know that they have bad service.

I never bank with Natwest but many years ago, I had to use them once as they were the closest bank to me, and I think they must have been taught to give the worst customer experience ever! It seems they still have not changed.

I used to be like a_person come out seething (but would write and complain straight away), but since they introduced online/telephone banking, I have never had to enter a bank since. Thank goodness!

I remember going with my son to a branch of NatWest at the Barbican when he was opening a student account. They said they only take students from 'local' universities and son must open it where he was going to uni. When I said this was ridiculous as he needed an account before he got to uni as he would have enough to do when starting a year away from home without trying to sort out an account. And of course he would need the cashcard immediately not in some weeks' time. They were totally useless but we wanted to persevere with NatWest as they give students a railcard for 5 years which is a good perk. We then walked to Moorgate branch (little one near the Gap) where the guy was charming.

I am forever complaining (and often writing letters too) but most people just shake their heads and think, another silly American complaining all the time!

It is good to complain, as well as show appreciation, often management do not know what is happening on the shop floor, and they do appreciate being informed.

I used to complain about a bus service that never seems to run and when they got to the bottom of it, it transpired that the drivers were taking breaks when they should not have been, so instead of every 10 minutes as advertised, they were running every hour, because it was not a busy route they thought no one would notice!! You know, I was p*ying the same fare as everyone else so why did I not get the same service as other bus routes. hehe.

I've got the hump with BT. My internet is down and according to BT it will be down for 6-12 hours and it's their fault. I said I hope you are going to compensate me, and was told I'd only get compensation if it was down 24 hours. Having said that, in the past when I've had compensation it's only a day's rate anyway, which is about £1. ARGH

I've got the hump with BT too. They are about to 'fine' us for over-using the Internet! I have no idea how that can be, or indeed who is spending so much time online!

I might leave BT as they are going to raise their line rental by £0.50p a month!!
