Well mixed reviews from us on this one. Son was really unimpressed and was very glad to get out of the cinema. I quite enjoyed it but I don't think it will live long in the memory.

Lovely to meet so many FMUKers and I'm very glad that jeancomp introduced herself. She heard me mention the name Beate so realised she was amongst friends. Sorry I didn't see you Tilly to say hello but hope your birthday was a very happy one.

We could have walked in from the street, no one wanted to see a printout, a Times+ card or a Times paper. Lovely to see so many FMUKers, even though I couldn't talk to you all!

I loved loved loved this. Really funny and cute and warm, and the music was fab - no wonder this is from the makers of Ice Age!

The Q&A was a different matter however. Well, Q&A is even a misnomer - it was basically one man droning on using a PowerPoint presentation. It honestly felt like a lecture. It was interesting for the first half hour but when he made no signs of shutting up after an hour, by which time it was 9pm because there was a 20 minute delay between film and the rest, we had enough and scarpered. He is probably still talking. I apologise unreservedly to a_person for being one of the people bascially dragging her back in - she had enough after 2 minutes (I think it was the moment he mentioned the word PowerPoint Presentation) but only left with us at 9pm. I am sorry!

The film however is so good that I am seriously thinking of watching it again on Sunday!

9/10

Looking forward to this on Sunday, was lucky enough to get two tickets for North Finchley so hoping it will not disappoint!

So happy to see so many FMUKers! I am finally associating screen names and faces. Even happier we didn't stay for the Q&A after reading Beate's post.

The movie felt me feel so good, I was probably the person laughing the hardest and loudest in the cinema... It just did it for me... I am still grinning thinking about it. Totally and utterly loved it! The dialogue, humor, story, happy ending, colours... it was all just perfect for me.

P.S. Every time I see valda on a screening the movie is either good or great - Legend of the Guardians, Unknown, Rio :D Sucker Punch was an exception, but the exception just enforces the rule.

I adore this film! This is one of the best animated films I have seen in a long time and would gladly watch it again. The animation was breathtaking, so vibrant and rich, that it really was a delight to watch. There was lots of comedy and a great variety of characters with distinct personalities. It is quite common for the sidekicks to outshine the hero but I thought all the characters were strong in this one. I loved all the voice work and the singing/dance numbers were a highlight of the film. There were some big names in here that really blended in with the overall cast.

I would definitely recommend this: beautiful animation, great characters and lots of humour. This is one for adults and kids. 9/10.

I stayed on for the Q&A which was about an hour and a quarter long. It was interesting, don’t get me wrong, but the presentation really dragged and the interviewer (I recognise her from TV but don’t know her name) seemed pointless as the director was doing all the talking. There were over 50 slides! It was cool so see how the animation process was developed but his presentation was far too long.

It must have gone on for 1 1/2 hours from what prettyxcool was telling me. Was anyone actually getting a word in and able to ask a question at the end? I wanted to ask whether they were planning Rio 2 but the people next to me were really suffering! Even OH said "I wanna go" and he is a patient soul.

I think it finally finished about 9.20pm but I basically ran out so he may have said something after I left. I was getting really fidgety and kept looking at my watch so I apologise to 5rannoch next to me (I was really tired and hungry and wanted to get out of there!).

There were a few brief questions from the audience once he finished talking:
- "what is your next project?" - he's taking a break, and hasn't decided what he's working on next, but it will probably be animation
- "did it make a difference having this in 3D?" - no, as the storyboard process is still the same, it is just different in the final phase of aninmation
- "did you have test screenings?" - yes, even though the film was made on a very tight schedule, and he didn't have time to make big changes, but there was good feedback from the audience, they were mostly concerned about what happened to the boy Fernando (lol)
- "why use actors rather than voice talent?" - they are familiar with the filming process, they have the voice acting required, and their famous name helps promote the film

Err that's off the top of my head! They may have been another question or two but I can't remember.

I'm clearly in the minority: I really enjoyed his talk. I've always wondered about how animations are made, and could have listened for hours. Also really loved the slides with all the drawings. Thought the whole process was amazing.

Wasn't quite sure who the interviewer was, or what her role was. Think the event should have been advertised as a presentation, as he was clearly quite confident and could have managed fine without her.

Loved the Apollo!

It's probably that I had expected something entirely different and I wasn't prepared for a lecture of that length. Yes it's interesting but it wore thin after a while "and can we skip to slide 55 please where you will see the favelas"....

Btw, did anyone else think that the trailer for the Jim Carey film with the penguins looked awesomely funny?
