Mine is the luxury beauty/body products that you get for pressies (and b*y) but over the last 18 months I have been ploughing my way through them, it felt like a real indulgence just using them on a work day not getting ready for a night out. Just had a lovely shower with L'Occitane gel so I am loving using them, still got enough eye shadows to last me the rest of my life 8O

I have so much stuff on my house that I don't invite people in anymore as I am embarrassed . . . . I would love to start over again!
In my worst days I've even thought of burning down the house so I could start again . . . that sounds so desperate, but I just want it all to disappear.
On other days I've thought of getting a new house and only take what I really want and dump the rest.
I've even b*ght things for my new house . . . that I don't have! :red:

I would love someone to come in and sort it all out! Any volunteers?????
Preferred cinemas: Best: Glasgow Quay, Glasgow Braehead, Glasgow Renfield Street, Glasgow Fort & Paisley
Others I'd go to: Glasgow Showcase Baillieston

Films already booked for:

Hope to get tickets for: Every film if they come to my preferred cinemas

Having plenty of uniform is not hoarding though, we have plenty of uniform, but if your
keeping the stuff they have grown out of, the shirt with the button missing etc....
nah .. i dont do that ... outgrown clothes get taken to the charity shop .. torn or scruffy gets used for cleaning cloths!!

i'm seriously gonna be more ruthless!! i'm actually not as bad as i'm coming across!! i'm really not .. i'm lookin around my living room now and it's not in any way cluttered .. i think if i didn't have the space, i would definitely not hang onto stuff ... i'm gonna start using my 'posh' glasses too!! so what if the kids break 'em (they're not THAT posh!!!)

i think 'saving things for best' comes from my mum .. she had 'best' dinner plates etc .. but i don't do 'entertaining' as such .. i have a nice set of dinner plates etc (got with my beloved Tesco vouchers again!!) .. we use them everyday and when anyone else comes to eat with us .. i never did understand why my mum 'kept things for best' .. she was the same with perfume .. you'd b*y her her fave perfume and she wouldn't wear it, cos she didn't want it running out!!!!

Sorry to hear how you feel McG :bighug: I am not sure I would want someone to do it for me as I am sure they would get rid of stuff that I wanted to keep (I know thats the idea  ). Maybe you ought to apply to one of the hoarder shows where they sort it out for you.

I know what you mean about not inviting people to the house, I rarely do it but as I am now trying to declutter hopefully things may improve. I had a tv and microwave in my hall for the best part of 6 months, the tv worked but was that old that you couldnt connect via scart, we always kept as a backup tv and it did come in handy over the years I finally decided it had to go, the microwave I replaced last year and never got rid of the old one. Then I b*ght a new cooker and had it in the back room until I could get it fitted. Happy to say that they have all gone now and at least its reasonably clear in the hall now, not totally clutterfree but an improvement.

My son recently had a clear out of his clothes and got rid of quite a few things, including school uniform ... he's 23 and not worn uniform since he was 17!!! Maybe its rubbing off on the kids too so I should try to make a good impression for them.

lI think I need to make small but regular attempts to declutter as if you think about it it has taken years in my case to get to this state so I cannot expect to sort overnight. At least its nowhere near as bad as on those tv shows, but they do highlight what might happen if you dont keep your eye on things. I am trying to make sure my "collection" is all tidied away, but dont have enough space for it all, though the excess are mainly packed in small crates piled up in my back room or on top of my kitchen cupboards so hopefully if I ever do get any visitors they dont look up!!

What is wrong with that??? I keep plenty of books because I read them again and again. I also keep some books because they're signed by the author or have sentimental value (given to me by someone special or "inherited" from my mum and grown up with them).

I might not be quite as impulsive/compulsive as some of the people here but I now have around 300 DVDs, many of which I haven't even watched yet. Add that to the many movies I've recorded on TV, and Lovefilm, and cinema visits, I think you can safely conclude that I NEED MORE TIME. But not now, I'm revising.
Go ahead, make my day - by visiting my blog: http://jacobthehobnob.wordpress.com/

Member number 33 of the "100 free films in 2012" club. I saw 32, which is rather delightful.. I beat Mr. Glass on free films but he narrowly inched me out on total films seen.

Member number 33 of the "100 free films in 2011" club. I saw 20, interestingly enough. My more realistic target was to see more free films than TheyCallMeMrGlass. I lost.
