Good job We dont live too far away dont know if We will bother going out again later back too cinema.
yes, also caught in the delay. we were allowed up just after 6.30pm. told it was delayed. only told (because we asked) it would 7.30pm, at 7.15pm. But there were lots of latecomers who weren't waiting in the lobby. were some tipped off about the delay? or is it such a normal occurance at the odeon greenwich that everyone sets their clock by it?

Saw in a busy Braehead. They did cause a little confusion by sending the early folk to screen 4 and then everyone else to sxreen 10. Folk sitting in 4 eventually joined us in screen 10.
I did find the film a little slow/disjoint and dark. I didn't feel any empathy for any of the characters and was quite glad when it was finished.

Saw this is Southampton Odeon yesterday. Ralph Fiennes and HBC rescued the film somewhat but it was still disjointed in places. As others have said Dickens is probably done best serialised. The remainder of the cast were pretty inoffensive though and it was a pleasant enough couple of hours though the ceiling lights felt like they were on full beam the whole time.

I've never seen Dickens (other than the modern movie remake with Ethan Hawke and Gwyneth Paltrow - horrible), so this was really interesting to watch in its correct setting. Must check out the recent BBC versions of Dickens.

I loved the ambience, the costumes and the acting was well done. HBC was visually good as Miss Haversham but I thought she wasn't mad enough ( yes HBC underplayed the character for a change), Estella wasn't mean enough and Pip just seemed like an ungrateful sulky boy when he grew up after being a rather nice child. The supporting characters seemed s,tronger in places than the main 3. Nice enough film to watch but was rather jumpy which left me explaining quite a lot to my daughter. 7/10

Saw this last night in Wimbledon. This is probably the fourth version I have seen of Great Expectations and whereas I loved the costumes, hairstyles, scenery and lighting - this version appeared to skip through a lot of the plot in that we didn’t not see the relationship between Pip and Estella develop, nor did we see the extent of Estella's teasing of Pip as a child. I presume this was omitted simply because of time constraints.

The acting was excellent (and very OTT - very typically Dickens) one has to remember that Dickens characters are always larger-than-life caricatures. The windswept, desolate Kent scenery was very atmospheric and absolutely in keeping with the plot.

Robbie Coltrane was brilliant as Jaggers as was a very camp David Walliams as Pumblechook. Jason Flemyng was, as always, totally believable - such a great actor and one who is never typecast. It was interesting to note that the young Pip was played by the younger brother of Jeremy Irvine's (older Pip).

Arrived at greenwich early, and told that film would be delayed until 7.30pm! had to take a walk down to sainsburys to pass the time, was not happy. last week same problem at vue lakeside for different screening, management were fab, sent us all in to see Skyfall, as didn't want to keep everyone standing around. film was a waste of time, dull, boring, my daughter was so bored, told her the original was good and would get her the book.

I would agree that the BBC adaptation was superior too, I guess the 3 episodes give it the lenght necessary to go into the characters in a bit more details.
I found this version was a bit too rushed and confused, with too little information at the beginning and too much towards the end making the whole story quite far-fetched. On a positive note the acting was very good, as well as the scenes of landscape and the quality of the images. Helena Bonham carter is as wacky and scary as usual and pulls the role of the crazy castle lady very well.
All in all, a nice two hours away from the day to day life but nothing extraordinary.

Quite enjoyed the film, a bit slow in parts but did expect that. Couldn't remember the story so had a few surprises. Lots of faces i recognised in the cast. Tamsin Outhwaite looked very different to usual. Started on time in Cardiff, comfortable screen at the Odeon as usual. Missed the beginning, stuck in bad traffic so probably annoyed a few people coming in 10 minutes late. First time though :)

Agreed, I thought the visuals were particularly good also.
