Re: A Christmas Carol
I've just arrived home from Cineworld, Boldon, where I tried to watch this film. You'll notice that I said tried - it was full - 1.30pm on a Sunday afternoon. The cinema foyer was heaving - I've never seen it so busy. Ah well, I'll try later in the week.

Re: A Christmas Carol
That's awful!
When we went last Sunday, I was waiting in the cold for 20 minutes for the cinema to even open up. When it finally did I was first in the queue for the film! It wasn't that busy in our cineworld. Only about 10% full!

Disney's Christmas Carol 3D
I just went to see Disney's Christmas Carol in 3D.... it was amazing!! Just like the "Soarin'" ride at Disney World in parts. I didn't think it was going to be so good to be honest, all the 3D programs I have watched on TV recently have done nothing more than hurt my eyes with those silly glasses but this film used the glasses that don't have 2 bright colours to look through, they are just like wearing sun glasses and didn't hurt my eyes at all.
The story obviously is the same old chestnut but for the entertainment quality of flying through the air and the terrific acting of the animated Scrooge (who my Gran thought was a real actor until I set her straight after the film!!!) are well worth the extra pounds to get into a 3D movie. Having said that at 3D premium prices it's £8.50 a ticket (plus 80p for the glasses but you get to keep these so is a one off thing) so treating 5 people to the cinema (the average number of people in my family I end up going with) is no light decision, I may have to keep my 3D movie cinema visits to a minimum or sneak to them by myself without the gang!!

Re: A Christmas Carol
I went to see this film at the new Odeon cinema in Gateshead, and saw it in 3D in the IMAX screen. The animination and the 3D effects are very good indeed, and the film stayed fairly true to the book, which is saying something nowadays! It dragged somewhat in the middle, and was enlivened by some 'funny' moments to engage the audience. There was no opportunity to feel sympathetic towards Bob Cratchett's family - not enough was made of Tiny Tim. As one or two people have already mentioned, Scrooge resembled Albert Steptoe, but I don't really think Jim Carey was at his best. I don't think this is Disney's finest, but was still enjoyable.
7/10 from me.

Re: A Christmas Carol
I didn't like it. It went from being scary to being dull and back, with a completely superfluous chase scene and Scrooge running around being tiny. The characters failed to engage on an emotional level, Jim Carey was completely the wrong person to voice Scrooge, and the ghosts looked and acted stupid, with Ghost of Christmas Present's insane laughter being particularly hard to stomach. I have seen so many better adaptations than this one.
I also hated the noisy kid in the cinema and the Dad playing with his blackberry, but that's beside the point. Coincidentally, it snowed just as much off screen outside as it did onscreen while we were watching.

This was my last film of the year!
