Which row were you in? I heard somebody's iPhone go off a few times, quite annoying!Beate wrote:WIQ was 100% full (at least before the walkouts) and I couldn't believe how slow time went. Checked my watch all the time, time just didn't go by. We also had some annoying talkers and phone checkers in our row, luckily I wasn't too fussed tonight.

Re: The Paperboy
I also know people who have been to cannes & they tend not to boo films they like....oddly.
oh, a quote from the observer.com....via google:
"The Paperboy was booed in Cannes, laughed down in Toronto and inserted in the New York Film Festival for no other purpose than to stir up controversy."

Please stop being deliberately argumentative. You need to re-read what I said. I didn't say the people I know boo, I said it is a tradition at the Festival for people to boo.newdot wrote:I also know people who have been to cannes & they tend not to boo films they like....oddly.

My feelings entirely. I already knew that the IMDB rating was poor, but the comments here have cemented my resolution; indeed, I feel I had a lucky escape!greece wrote:http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1496422/
after reading the posts here and this imdb rating... I might not bother seeing this movie
Re: The Paperboy
Saw the film last night at Notts apart from the two bimbos near me who must have said "Oh my God" too many times i found the film strangly compelling viewing with some very strong performances, but also found the direction a bit of a mess.

Re: The Paperboy
After seeing it last night I figured I need to sleep on it because of very mixed feelings. Still, the first thing that comes to mind this morning is RAW. I suppose I see where most commenters are coming from, but I have to say I found the performances powerful, was even surprised that I liked Nicole Kidman, as am not a big fan. And John Cusack was brilliantly repulsive, which is saying something for a guy I love most for his sweet Lloyd Dobler.
With mixed feeling it's a 6.5/10 from me.

The cinema forgot about us in Sheffield. It got to 6:45 and it hadnt started. My wife knew something was a-miss, so she went out and enquired and it turns out they had completley forgot about us.
Looking back on it after the event, I wish she hadnt gone and enquired. I think everyone had more fun when everyone was chatting to each other.
Not one of the best films I have ever seen....

I also slept on my view of the film rather than post last night and guess what . . . . I still hate it!
I think this may be my contender for the worst film of the year which, given it's only mid February, may not bode well for the rest of the year.

Definitely glad I hadn't pa*d! Definitely will never watch again!

Re: The Paperboy
I found this film compelling. I had to listen hard when it first started but not sure if that was because of the strong accents or the low volume
However, once I got used to the strong accents this film enthralled me. I have never understood why some women are attracted to men on death row and this film doesn't help me to understand their mindset but Nicole Kidman played her slutty role to perfection. That jail scene between her and John Cusack and the discomfort felt by all in the room with them was very well acted and certainly made me squirm in my seat. John Cusack frightened the life out of me in so many scenes.
This is a bold film and I congratulate them having the balls to make it. Some will say there are graphic scenes but they aren't. You see nothing as the camera always pulls away.
Even when Cusack slits Matthew McConaughey's throat, his arm hides the wound, all you see is the blood.

You see the result of the perverted sex act but you don't see how those wounds were inflicted.
I found Kidman, Cusack, McConaughey, Efron and Macy Gray all fabulous in their roles. I was a little confused as to where David Oyelowo's character fitted in but possibly because I didn't quite catch all that was said early on in the film.
I score this film 7/10

I think it's great to read the comments by The Sparrow as it shows just how different we all are!
Also, it shows that FMUK has room for all opinions and no one giving someone else grief for having that opinion.
