Monsters University
Re: Monsters University
I also saw this at an unusually rammed Stratford East on Thursday through E4 Slackers (when I go to these screenings there are half a dozen people max). The "Blue Umbrella" is pretty similar to another inner-city-chance-romance-encounter short "Paperman" they showed before Wreck It Ralph, albeit with umbrellas.
The main feature is very enjoyable. Great turn by Helen Mirren.
Oh, and for trinket lovers, we all got a special MU badge with "Stratford East Picturehouse" on it. Did others get the same for other cinemas?

Re: Monsters University
I concur. I can't believe they had the screening in that massive place, and not a cup cake or cup of water in sight, I thought they'd be having fun in the foyer, that's why the queue was so long.Rainey wrote:Wow! What a queue to get into The Times Leicester Sq Screening this morning!
As to the film, I drifted of a few times, I'd not see the first film, and this wasn't my cup of tea at all. My friends son Lexx who is 7 was sitting up in his seat, really getting into it.

ps who's bright idea was it to have a load of old posters by the doors when people are trying to leave?

Re: Monsters University
The queue was a mile long when we arrived at 9.45am (had aimed for 9.30am but missed a train and hadn't realised the Northern Line was out between Waterloo and Leicester Square). Got seats upstairs but they weren't the best and I was annoyed about the bloke to my right who kept giggling throughout the film, and the kid behind me who kicked my seat now and then. Saw an array of FMUKers wander past but missed some others.
I thought this was too long and not as good as the original. We discover that Mike always was a non-scary lovable nerd and Sulley was a bit of a dick who needed to learn how to be nice first. The story wasn't wildly original and I didn't find it overly funny either, though we do find out how Sulley and Randall's rivalry started. The array of monsters was cute but all in all the flimsy story dragged. Not a patch on Up or Finding Nemo.

I had a look at the posters too, thought it would be for Monsters University but it was rubbish like The Big Wedding etc. It really slowed the exit queue down!

There was also bloke behind me and another next to me, who were also really into the film and giggling out loud constantly through the film and I mean really laughing, belly laughs.Beate wrote:The queue was a mile long when we arrived at 9.45am (had aimed for 9.30am but missed a train and hadn't realised the Northern Line was out between Waterloo and Leicester Square). The kids and myself all enjoyed the film, we did find it quite funny, but all agreed it was not as good as the first one.

Re: Monsters University
Saw this today at Leicester Square a second time. I had to see it again because of my nephews ...honest.
I enjoyed it as much the second time round but not sure of the message the film had.
Lovely to see Canadian Turtle and Funthing at the start and at the end great to bump into pxc. Also spotted Livi92.

Re: Monsters University
Saw this at l square today too. Arrived at 9.10 by accident. The northen line was closed and left early to compensate for the alternate route. It turned out to be faster.
. Although praised the early gods when i saw how long the the queue got. I was close to the front and howled with victorious laughter.
As for the film, pleasently surprising. With cars 1 & 2 and brave, i pronounced pixars reign over. And m u didnt sound like it would change things. But the story while unoriginal had a few curve balls thrown in there. Some good jokesthat made me chuckle more than a few times, even full on laughter at a couple points.
Not a great film and by far not the best to come out of pixar, but it was better structured and plotted and had better jokes than some of their recent output, even rising back up above mediocore durig a few scenes (that scene by the lake near the end was so well written, had actual justification and context birthed by the structure and pa*d off their character arcs).
7/10
Good time out

Re: Monsters University
First time in Odeon Leicester Sq, didn't even know they had a balcony as well...I barely managed to get there at 10.29 or so and no queue, but had to settle for a side seat, though I thought it was more than fine. Really enjoyed the movie, smart and funny! First Times+ screening, great they had the free 3D glasses :)

Re: Monsters University
I have a sore head caused by all the screaming kids! I knew this screening was gonna be special when i was handed my super-duper 3D glasses!! We had Mike & Sully at our screening, kids were able to get their pictures taken with them, exciting stuff! Once everyone was seated a woman came on stage, said a few words and then introduced Scott Clark, the supervising animator, he spoke a little about how great it was working on the film. Also said we were the only ones in the uk to see the film this early..obviously unaware of a screening in London this morning too! And then he introduced Mike & Sully...so they both came in dancing along to music and the kids went wild...again! lol.
I thought the film was brilliant, sooo colourful & bright! I gave it 9/10 but my kids give it 10/10...we also stayed for the wee snippet after the credits rolled, found that bit quite funny!
The kids also got a free teeny tiny tub of ice-cream...no fair!!

Re: Monsters University
Really enjoyed Monsters uni. Many Thanks too chille1973 for the tickets. We have since the 1st Monsters inc and My Daughter said She had waited for a long time too see this. Shes almost 17 .We had too keep moving before the start of the film. This was because My Daughter wanted too watch the film without young kids chatting away and kicking Her seat. We watched it at Leicester sq. Arrived around 9.45am joined the long queue. We wasn't asked for a times card. It came a close 2nd too the original Monsters inc. We also waited for all the credits. Also quite enjoyed the blue umberella short film.
