The Moth Diaries
Re: The Moth Diaries
We've exchanged our printout for tickets in Odeon box office yesterday. The guy had a brown envelope with pre printed tickets with the name of the film, screening time, number of the screen but no rows or seats....

Re: The Moth Diaries
Yeah we had to exchange print-outs for tickets to, it was bit slow but better than The Big Wedding, the kind of you'd find yourself watching on channel 5 sometime. It's not gory or scary at all but I like it that way, we had a trailer for The Conjuring which I hope to never see again & definitely not going to a free screening of it if it comes up.
And someone said something about Lily Cole's accent, she's meant to be English she even mentions coming across the ocean as part of her back story, and a boarding school would have international students staying anyway.

aha, Yogz, I have made that mistake too, confusing her with Lily Collins. Difference - Collins is an actress (although shes probs just as much been handed roles for her name too).

Re: The Moth Diaries
Saw this with OH in Glasgow Showcase with only a few other people. We both thought it was awful. Slow to start and didn't get better. The worst we've seen in a long time.
Can't think of a reason to give this any marks at all. Very disappointing.

Re: The Moth Diaries
Saw this today in a large screen along with about 30 others at The Trafford Centre. Had a really low expectation after reading all the comments so was surprised to find Okay - I've seen a lot worse.
Re: The Moth Diaries
I watched the movie yesterday in Shepherds Bush Vue (half of the audience empty). The story was predictable although it had potential, and the acting wasn't bad, that even includes Lily Cole's piercing looks from underneath her catterpillar eyebrows, but the movie was very weak and this is the director's fault (Mary Harron of American Psycho). Not enough of a gothic story, not strong enough to be the story of a teenage girls friendship-obsession, just too middle of the road and safe, You would flick to another channel if you saw it on tv. This film is targeted at adolescent girls who cannot yet tell good cinema from bad. You'd be better off spending 2 hours reading.
Re: The Moth Diaries
Saw this today and although I went in with very low expectations from previous reviews I found it to be passable. Mediocre and predictable, but not THAT bad after all. It certain had potential and perhaps could have done with a few more scenes to help explain things. It did seem to be a bit rushed and jumped forwards a lot although it was equally slow, if that's not a contradiction. I do have to wonder what hit the cutting room floor. This came from a book after all so must have had some substance to begin with.
That said I'd be a bit disappointed to have had to p*y for this and yes, I may well have changed channel if watching it on TV, but it is OK.

Re: The Moth Diaries
Just got to see this & it's not as terrible as i feared....but pretty bad nonetheless.
I like to think about the original "Evil Dead" as a film about a man who loses his mind and kills all his friends... and in a similar vein this film could be seen as a film about a school girl who loses her mind & kills all her friends (and a butch teacher).
OK, I might be giving it more credit than it deserves, but I did think that the lead actress (not lily cole....the other one) was very good, given the material she was working with.
In summary, not the worst film of the year (hello "Eye of the Storm"), but kinda bad, all the same.
4/10
edit: lead actress I thought was v. good was Sarah Bolger.

Re: The Moth Diaries
Wasn't terrible. Honestly, from the comments, I was expecting another Movie 43.
Was this a pure ghost story or a sad tale about mental illness? By the end, I wasn't sure if it was all meant to be in Rebecca's head.
Ran into caitlinmorton - and a couple of random women who demanded she explained the story to them.
Reminds me when we all saw Cloud Atlas and c_t was the only one who had read it, so we were picking her brains on here. Except this was a real life ambush.
Rebecca reminded me a bit of a young Lindsay Lohan. Ernessa's eyebrows reminded me of... Well, I don't know. But certainly not eyebrows. That was distracting.
