The most memorable sequences from KA1 (Big Daddy's warehouse shoot out, Hit-Girl's strobe light rescue, the banana-splits attack and the grand finale) had an aura of grandiose. It was loud, bright, gritty and showcased Vaughn's trademark style throughout. That's what was missing in this one - something to set it apart from the rest.
Honestly, the only bit which amused me was the
adrenaline injection attack. And even that was over in 10 seconds.
Also,
Hit-Girl may be a 15 year old teenage girl but she would have NEVER had a sexual awakening to effing Union J.
its a scene that self parodies itself, yes.
but you see that's where the prelude graphic novel helps, shes still a tiny thing in that. I guess they had to change her age to suit an older Moretz, or recast her. All the recurring kids looked too old now to play their respective parts, and that's a problem that's going to amplify geometrically with each sequel (apart from the Battleguy fat kid from Greek (Dale, Rusty's roommate) and Hot Tub Time Machine, who appears to be stuck at age 16 forever, it seems).
I like that Mindy still dresses down and only wore make-up teen movie style in one scene in the entire film, a plainness that's honest. She reminded me more of a kid from back home rather than the spoilt California or Surrey brats who seem to have everything at 14.
Some of the gags were good (and weren't in the novel), like the Mother Russia/Mother fcuker incongruency.
I don't like that Carrey seemed incidental, what a waste, and he wasn't the only one that was lazily written. And there were virtually no outstanding scenes, that much is true.
