Thanks everyone. I asked for my refund up front as the guy was asking for me to send the bottle back (so he can sell it to some other schmuck, I'm sure) but I contacted another buyer he sold this to who did return it only to be told it was never received. I asked the seller if he had been contacted by others about having been sold fake bottles and he denied it. So right there I know he's just lying outright to me and I've opened a dispute with Paypal. Hopefully he folds as I've called his bullshit now, but we'll see.

eBay has been described as "an absolute minefield for the unwary - a paradise for thieves, scammers, couterfeiters and fences"!!

I b*ght an Epiphone Les Paul (guitar) some years ago on eBay. When it arrived it just didn't feel quite right, and I was suspicious that it may be a fake. After some quick research on the net I was convinced that it was. I told the seller that if he didn't refund my money within the next two hours I would contact the police. I outright refused to send his guitar back to him (on the basis that it would be like handing a fleeing burglar's crowbar back to him) and told him I would be keeping it.

He sent my money back, I kept the guitar, he immediately removed the rest of his couterfeit guitar stuff from his list of sale items. I then contacted eBay, PayPal and Epiphone. He disappeared altogether, but he had sold at least 30 of these guitars to others before me at around £300 a shot.

You need to take care, and I may be wrong here, because my understanding is Paypal will only reimburse you if the seller has funds in his account. If he withdraws all the money from his account you may not see yours again. Does he still have items up for sale on ebay at the moment or has he scarperred?

There's a big difference between someone who is selling a one off item in all inocence that turns out to be dodgy, but some of these people are serial scammers. They will typically set up an account, quickly build up some feedback via b*ying and selling low value items so they look legit and then start selling their counterfeit stuff. Once their scam comes to light they disappear and then set up again under a different name.

eBay feign concern but they rarely do much to help in my experience. After all they always get their fees.

I do hope you get a good resolution soonforgotten. :cross:

Well done soonforgotten. Excellent news!

Was that from the seller or paypal? Did he say anything?

Also, you should leave negative feedback highlighting this.

I b*ght a phone from an ebayer and in my messages was very friendly asking him about whether it's unlocked or not. It's a simple yes or no. He responded really rudely to me. After he delivered it, he had the audacity to send me three or four messages for feedback, completely ignored him. In his messages, he suddenly knew how to write such nice messages. Should have been nice from the start and then I might have considered it. Pig.
