What? Books were all I asked for as presents for my birthday and Christmas as a kid! I never wanted things like clothes. Told you I was weird!

I loved books as present when I was young too as I didn't have that many then now I have f**king library at home and absolutely no space so I hate it when people get me books. I do always want a room dedicated to my books...one day maybe....

Ha! I could have but thought I'd be different since I call you that all the time anyway and then people are like what's c_t? I wrote can_tur on one and copied and posted it on all the others!

The Philip Pullman 'Northern Light' books are a very pleasurable read. I highly recommend them to anybody who hasn't read them.

I echo that too, they're now referred to as The Dark Materials trilogy. Tremendously inventive story telling and really epic in scale. Ignore the movie (The Golden Compass) which was shambolic. I actually saw a stage play at the NFT of the whole trilogy years ago. The play was in 2 parts on seperate dates so ran for about 6 hours in total. It was an incredible and impressive production with a great live orchestral soundtrack. Timothy Dalton played Lord Asriel. As with all NFT stage plays, it wasnt a permanent show, in fact each part ran for just a few shows each a month in between.

I've neva poof cheked boocs befour, despite mie grandma so good. So all my books are b*ght (apart from the odd freebies). I considered getting rid of some but I am fond of seeing my books on my shelves, I dont feel ready to let go yet!

Liked the first book of the Golden Compass trilogy - Northern Lights and the film actually wasnt bad, dont know why it got hammered. The 2nd book was decent with Will a likeable protagonist. But the story started getting a bit aireyfairey, I couldnt hack the last one.
Great idea for a fantasy series though, 'God isnt who you think he is' - echoes of 'Preacher' from the 90s. Should have stuck to two books in my opinion.

If anyone enjoys reading YA books I can thoroughly recommend the Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness.

I finished another book by a completely new author. I am glad I am taking the risks to read unknown authors first books, not only does it potentially help them to spread the word when I write a review on Amazon and Goodreads but I've been lucky enough to really enjoy these new authors book so far. In fact I enjoyed them far more than some recent supposedly "classic" books.

So anyway, this latest book I've read is called Disconnected by A.K. Adler. It is a black comedy romantic time travel thriller. Yep, all those rolled into one. The author has an almost Terry Pratchet way about his narrative and there are plenty of hilarious moments. Thoroughly enjoyed it, very fast paced and thrilling towards the end. I give this 4/5 stars


So thats 5 time travel books I've read in the space of 5-6 weeks or so. 2 of them were 60s classics which I didnt enjoy, 1 is a more modern book that's the 4th in an excellent series. And the other 2 were the new authors books which were very entertaining.

I'm going to read a more mainstream non TT book now which I had already started but will resume it now, called Skulduggery Pleasant, apparantly a very popular YA fantasy.

Just finished Department 19.

Thank god its the first in a major new series.

My only problem.
I want the second one, NOW.
And it's not out yet :'(

Basicly, its a story about a secret organisation know as Blacklight or Department 19, who have been tasked with the job of reducing and in time eliminating the ever growing scourge of vampires that have emerged via Dracula.
Throw in a bunch of quirky characters, those of which include Frankenstein, and your set.
Mixture of action, gore, excitement, romance and betrayal, I highly recommend it!

Yesterday I read "Shoplifting from American Apparel" by Tao Lin. It's a novella (hence the quick read in one day) and had it not been I'd not have finished it. It was a struggle to read the 102 pages. I read it because I'd heard about it and thought that must mean it's worth a read.

How wrong I was.

It stretches over two years (I think) and nothing much happens. Other than the main character shoplifting twice. And IM'ing. And not having interesting conversations. It's like what I imagine not particularly bright 14/15 year olds talk about at break time. Do yourself a favour and don't read it.

Next stop: The Autobiography of the Queen; a novel by Emma Tennant.
