I know Shameless is a bit like Marmite, love it or hate it, I personally love it. So I thought I'd watch the pilot for Shameless US and see how it translated.
Sadly, I think a little was lost in a translation, it seems the first episode was script wise pretty close to the UK version but it wasn't as gritty and it had that American polish all over it, also William H Macy who I usually like, was just not as convincing a no good lay about drunk as David Threlfall in the role of Frank Gallagher. The boys Lip, Ian and Carl lacked the rough edges from the UK version too.
The were a few notable differences which means it will have to veer off in its own direction and won't be able to continue with the same script as the UK, such as baby Liam being black and therefore not Franks, the house being detached so Steve obtaining the house next door and knocking it through won't work.
Would I watch any more of it, yes I probably would, although for me it didn't work as well as the UK version, it wasn't awful and wonder where they will take the characters. I would be surprised if it remains as 'in your face' as the UK version and also as long running.

It got wayward big time but most series do when they go on for this long. It was still fun but never reached the heights of the early seasons with Michael Rosenbaum or whatever his name is. The finale was good, not superb but it was good enough for me, even if a bit rushed it ticked all the boxes of what I wanted to see. I wouldnt mind seeing a movie smallville. But why Smallville? It should now be Superman or call it Metropolis. A series that last 10 years means there is a big fan base so a movie is certainly worth considering.
