Beate Death Stares, eh? LOL.
I don't think it's that others weren't bothered, they just didn't dare say anything. A rather dishevelled looking guy was entering the DLR at Deptford Bridge today and sat close to us, with very loud and awful musical noise coming from his pocket. I tried my Death Stare(TM) and some huffing and puffing but the bloke in front of him simply turned round and said "Would you turn that down, mate" - and HE DID. Instantly.

At the ballet the other day, the ushers dealt with chatters by shining a torch at them and saying "don't talk".
I was wishing I'd had such a torch at the Old Vic last night to admonish the woman a couple of seats away who kept texting and checking her mobile phone.

Awww I had a really annoying woman behind me at the bodyguard earlier talking and laughing at really inappropriate moments... Sooo rude... even her friend had to tell her to shush!

Everything about Cineworld Castleford. Lights were fully out from them letting people in. That said the screens are too light and the sound is usually distorted. Worst cinema that I visit.

On Monday I was unfortunate enough to be sitting next to the human dustbin. Why she chose to sit next to me when she had 80% of the rest of the cinema free to wander will forever remain a mystery. I have never seen popcorn thrown in handfuls at a mouth with such vigour, except perhaps in cartoons. Who eats in this manner??!! She also proceeded to take off her shoes and rub her cheesy abominations variously on her seat, the floor and the back of the seat in front. I moved one up in disgust and then she filled my seat with all her luggage and hideous bag-lady accoutrements. Oh, and did I mention her ghastly laughter ?

The only thing more irritating than a latecomer to the theatre is one with a baby! I don't care how well-behaved she was, all babies make gurgling noises which spoil dramatic silences. Even when their mouth is full of breast they are noisy. Oh, and if you angle your baby's legs at a fellow theatre goer, your baby will kick that other person repeatedly! It's not cute and it's not acceptable!

The mind boggles. I don't blame the baby, I blame the mother. Get a sitter or don't go to the theatre!

I didn't find this offensive, but more 'odd'... I once went to the theatre and this woman had two children with her. The little boy was about 4/5 years old, before the play started, he'd run off, then run back to his mum, suckle her breast, slurp some juice, run off and back for seconds/thirds of breast, slurp some juice etc.

I mean 4/5 - I'm no expert, but isn't that a bit old for 'bitty'. Having said that, he had really rosy healthy cheeks, so it was obviously good for him.

I was in New York two weeks ago at the Theatre to see a Broadway show. I was third row center in the stalls. A family came in and sat right next to me. Their daughter was 11 years old. Before the show everything seemed fine, the daughter was a bit precocious, but from their conversation it sounded like she went to the theatre quite a bit so I wasn't worried. However, during the first act transformation scene (the show was Jekyll and Hyde), a crucial scene, she started asking her mom a question. Loudly. And then proceeded to crackle her candy through the rest of the act. At the interval the people behind them tapped her to ask her to refrain from being loud, and her parents went nuclear. The dad got up and got security to resolve the situation, which was not at all out of hand and would be easily resolved if their daughter practiced a bit of theatre etiquette, which in turn led to him missing the first 20 minutes of the second act, presumably because he was outside yelling at security. The dad got security because his daughter was annoying everyone around them and people were complaining, which somehow offended him. Given the proximity to the stage, she might also have been heard by the actors, which is unacceptable. She was much better behaved in the second act, despite the fact that her parents kept telling her at intermission that she was doing nothing wrong, but then the ladies on the other side of me brought out a shopping bag of snacks and proceeded to be incredibly loud around me. It was not a good time, especially considering how much the tickets were.

You would think that if people p*y that much for a ticket, they would know how to behave in a theatre.

I feel really old saying this, but my mother wouldn't have let me behave like that! She'd have chucked me out of the venue herself!
