Phew. Christmas Cards and presents out. Made it to local post office through the snow 10 minutes before they shut, got it all done and threw it into the post sack 2 seconds before they dragged it all out to the post van! Surprisingly cheap to send stuff to Germany! Can relax a bit now.

Food shopping all done, so pleased with myself. Went to our local ASDA and saw our GP singing Christmas Carols with a bunch of other people in the entrance, guitar and all! Funniest thing ever.

As we are all honest folk here, I just thought I would make a few things clear for Christmas so that no-one inadverently breaks the law!


It is illegal to eat mince pies on Christmas day
Oliver Cromwell banned Christmas pudding, mince pies and anything to do with gluttony. That law has never been rescinded so mince pies are illegal.


Do not drive to Church on Christmas day
According to the Holy Days and Fasting Days Act of 1551, which has not yet been repealed, everyone must attend church on Christmas Day on foot.


Do not play footie on Christmas day
Henry VIII banned all forms of sport on Christmas day, except archery. However the ban has never been enforced, as Henry also liked a kickabout, but still beware!


What should you have for Christmas dinner
Only eat goose, as in 1588 Elizabeth I enacted a law making it an offense to eat any other bird on Christmas day.
