Author Lee Child backs diminutive actor to play 6' 5" Jack Reacher despite backlash from fans.

Reacher, the character who is a former graduate of West Point, is described in the books as being 6'5" and weighing 18 stone. His official description on Child's website says:

Measurements: 6'5", 220-250 lbs, 50" chest
Hair: Dirty-blond
Eyes: Ice blue
Clothing: 3XLT coat, 95 cm. pants' inseam

In One Shot - which will be directed by Christopher McQuarrie - Reacher investigates a case in which a lone sniper murders five victims. He is described in one book as being "built like a brick outhouse. Hands like shovels, face like a catcher's mitt."

WTF?

Fans of the Jack Reacher books are furious that Tom Cruise will play the character in a new movie.

Cruise has signed up to play the ex-soldier, described as “built like a brick outhouse”, in an upcoming adaptation of 'One Shot', and fans of the Lee Child series took to the net to vent their anger.

Even those unfamiliar with the character will be perplexed as to how the 5' 5' star will play a man who is a foot taller and weighs 18 stone.

Further rage and angst here: http://uk.movies.yahoo.com/blog/article ... -role.html

I'm delighted that there is to be a Jack Reacher movie (love Lee Child novels), but the jury's out on the decision to cast Tom in the lead role. However, we shall have to wait and see what happens, won't we?

Bridesmaids director Paul Feig has revealed that the comedy's sequel may be titled Bridesmaids Revisited.

Feig admitted that he is keen to work with the cast - including Kristen Wiig, Rose Byrne, Maya Rudolph and Melissa McCarthy - for a second time, although Universal is yet to officially give the green light to any follow-up.

This is taken from today's Scottish Legal Newsletter. I thought it was interesting.

Christopher Clarke used his mobile phone to record Robin Hood at Cineworld in Glasgow.

He has already pleaded guilty and is due to be sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday.

Clarke, 25, was caught after an investigation by industry body the Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT).

They were led to Cineworld in Glasgow city centre thanks to the unique watermarks found on every film reel and digital copy released to cinemas.

The watermarks, undetectable to casual viewers, allow authorities to trace which cinema screens a copy was made from.

It also enables them to determine where a pirate copy has been illegally filmed.

FACT and Strathclyde Police launched an operation at the cinema on May 12 last year, when the new Robin Hood movie was being shown.

Clarke was found leaving the cinema with a mobile phone that he used to record the film.

Kieron Sharp, director general of FACT, said: "Illegal recording in cinemas is the primary source for pirated copies of films, which are found online and also sold as counterfeit DVDs.

"Piracy costs and threatens jobs and livelihoods of people working in cinemas, the retail sector and across the TV and film industry in Scotland, the UK and the world.

"FACT is determined to work with police and other agencies to clamp down on the production, distribution and sales of pirated content."

A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman added: "Serious and organised crime affects ordinary people. b*ying a counterfeit DVD may seem harmless enough but you can bet that it's been produced as apart of a wider criminal network that's involved in other crimes like prostitution, human trafficking, fraud, embezzlement and violence.

"Strathclyde Police is determined to make a long-term impact in this area, and this case shows the progress which is being made."
