OH MY Ewan was there? That doesn't sound like him, he's normally so enthusiastic.
I saw it when it was shown a while back, I did enjoy it but the girl totally got on my nerves.
I'm looking out for a French film, but I doubt if it will be shown in the cinema

preferred locations Shepherds Bush, Westfield, Notting Hill, Central London, Wimbledon, Islington, Wandsworth thanks

Yep he had real trouble answering the question from the girl working for the AID charity
Celini wrote:I was at Curzon as well where I joined ejwrank and family (I forgot to ask, is David our David?) and I think I am a minority here as I quite enjoyed it and I definitely think the trailer did not do it justice.
When ejwrank's OH asked me what I thought of it I said "it could have been a French movie" and then I realised why I liked it

I like sad and melancholic movies!
About the Q&A, how poor was that! The Guardian guy did not do his job properly, the audience never connected with the guests. And he should know that self depreciation is never a good way to address an audience, it is not funny and your public will just pity you!
It was all a bit awkward and I would have prefer Christopher Plummer or Melanie Laurent rather than Ewan McGregor; he seemed really bored and was not very interesting to listen to!
I'll give it a 7/10

It was a bit slow and meandered a bit but I thought it came together well at the end and I came away thoughtful about it all and liking it. I guess it's cos I like french films too and the last film I went to was the Hangover 2 on saturday night which I found both tedious and offensive (even though I liked the first) so because of that I found the quirkiness of Beginners charming and loved Arthur! I also found myself being able to relate to it to the whole theme of being afraid to live your live as you want to and liked the quiet way it was being done rather than some films would hit you over the head with a mallet sized 'carpe diem'.
8.5/10 (there's an extra point in there for Arthur

Was at the Curzon Soho earlier.
I personally thought this was a very touching and moving film. Beautifully shot, with a fantastic use of music throughout. The script was often very funny and it managed to stay the likeable side of quirky. The performances were all excellent (especially Cosmo the dog) and for once the two leads actually had really great chemistry. Yes it did run out of steam a little in the 2nd half but on the whole I thought this was highly entertaining and very charming. It had the feel of early Woody Allen at times though less Jewish (a quarter Jewish perhaps).
I actually found the Q&A after very engaging and informative and thought that both Mills and McGregor were both on fine form. Ewan definitely didn't seem unenthusiastic from where I was sitting. The fact that he'd come straight from a day's filming of a big budget movie speaks volumes about his passion and enthusiasm for the film, he was probably just tired. Although the Guardian Guide host was a bit rubbish.
EDIT: I say all the performances were excellent but had forgotten about Goran Visnjic whose acting was as odd and distracting as his haircut/wig.

As usual with Telegraph screenings, I was by far the youngest person in the audience.
Perhaps I wasn't the target audience as I found this dull. The story was promising but the scenes didn't seem coherent which made the film feel endless. There were some nice quirky moments but these were few and far between. The acting was good and Ewan gave a surprisingly understated performance. This could have been a charming film but any potential enjoyment was drowned out by the unfocused storytelling. I was continuously clock watching and couldn't wait for this to finish. 5/10.

I enjoyed this film even though I agree it was a bit slow. The acting was good and the criss cross of the two stories was done well. The only thing was I lost track of the romance timeline, not sure if it ran over days or months? I liked the quirky graphics links and thought the dog was brilliant.

I didn't think it was that slow, it actually made for a nice change to the summer blockbusters but it was just the lack of direction in the 2nd half that was disappointing. The director was telling a story far too close to his heart and it became quite indulgent in the the 2nd half
